Seth Sikes, of whom NY Arts Review said, "may well be one of the saviors of the Great American Songbook" returned to FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW on Wednesday, June 8th in Seth Sikes Sings Liza Minnelli, an evening of Minnelli's most popular songs. The show was performed to a capacity crowd that included legendary composer John Kander who wrote all of Minnelli's signature tunes along with Broadway director Susan Stroman and lyricist David Zippel.
Each of Sikes's previous appearances at the venue have also sold out, and he garnered some of the most exciting reviews of 2015 including Theater Scene who said, "The most memorable cabaret show I've witnessed in the past year was that of Seth Sikes."
Liz Smith recently said, "The very best Happy Birthday to Liza, came in the form of Seth Sikes's triumphant homage to the star at Feinstein's/54 Below. Seth's set included some of the "big hits" but he mostly confined himself to poignant, not as well-known Liza numbers that captured the star's (and Seth's own) sensitivity. "Plenty of Time," "Sing Happy" and "Sorry I Asked" were particularly moving. The place was packed and the crowd went wild. Just like, well - a Liza Minnelli concert!
Previously best known in the theater as an Assistant Director (on shows like The Nance, Tribes, and Pageant), Sikes performed with a eight-piece band.
Seth's upcoming performances include:
The evening featured orchestrations by Matt Aument, Neil Douglas Reilly & Jesse Vargas. Eric Gilliland directed and Paul Masse was the evening's musical director.
