Singer-songwriter, actress and producer Rita Wilson makes her return to Café Carlyle, October 16-20 with Rita Wilson: Liner Notes. Stephen Holden of The New York Times wrote of her debut residency: "[If you] closed your eyes at certain moments you could imagine you were cruising down a Southern California highway in the early 1970s. Sandwiched between the music of Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne on the car radio was a promising new voice whose sound fit right in with theirs." Rita Wilson's forthcoming residency will go "behind the music" to discover stories leading to songs that have become the soundtrack to so many lives. The performances will include friends who just happen to have written some of the most memorable songs of this century and last - for fascinating revelations about how their creations came to be.
At the Café, Rita Wilson: Liner Notes will feature Kara DioGuardi and Tom Douglas among others. Kara DioGuardi is a Grammy-nominated songwriter, former American Idol judge, producer and music publisher. For the past five years, she has been a Herb Alpert Visiting Scholar at Berklee College of Music. As one of the most successful contemporary songwriters in the world, Kara's songs have appeared on more than 160 million albums. Kara wrote P!nk's "Sober" and co-wrote six tracks on Kelly Clarkson's sophomore album, Breakaway. She's worked extensively with Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears as well as many other pop legends. Tom Douglas is an American country music songwriter who was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014. Douglas has been active in the industry since the early '90s and has written top ten hits for John Michael Montgomery, Martina McBride, Tim McGRaw, Collin Raye, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert ("House That Built Me") and others. She'll also be joined by acclaimed songwriters Dan Wilson (Adele, Dixie Chicks), Patty Smyth ("Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" - a duet with Don Henley) as well as Kristen and Robert Lopez (Disney's Frozen).
Performances will take place Tuesday - Saturday at 8:45pm. Reservations can be made by phone at 212.744.1600 or online via Ticketweb. Café Carlyle is located in The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel (35 East 76th Street, at Madison Avenue).
