Klea Blackhurst returned to Birdland, her musical home, on Monday, January 10, with a fresh show of stories and songs from the American Songbook and Broadway. A highlight of her show was a saga detailing her childhood love and adoration of Donny Osmond. Musical moments included "A Cockeyed Optimist" and "The Yodeling Muchacha," all of which sent the happy audience out into the cold New York weather with good cheer! Klea will be featured as Shelby Cross in the upcoming IFC series, "The Onion News Network."
Jim Caruso's Cast Party, the wild open mic night that celebrates the Broadway, pop and jazz communities, followed the concert, with impromptu performances by Jane Monheit, Telly Leung, Paolo Montalban, Trevor McQueen Eaton, Andrew Gerle, Kevin Earley, Jessica Rush, Erin Quill, Gabriel Lopez, Nate Lombardi, Nicolas King, Angela Bacari, Natalie Joy Johnson, AAaron Weinstein, Joan Crowe, Marie Pruitt, Natalie Douglas, Nolan Burke and Colleen McHugh. Cast Party takes place every Monday night; 9:30 at Birdland.
