For over 60 years, the Muppets have been entertaining the world through laughter, learning, love - and lots of music. For one night only, some of Broadway and comedy's brightest stars came together in a celebration of the songs they've brought us and the stories they've told us - those most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, muppetational Muppets. Scroll down for photos from the sold-out 54 CELEBRATES THE MUPPETS, hosted by Griffin Newman (HBO's Vinyl, Amazon's The Tick)!
The night featured hits and hidden gems from the Muppets' musical catalog sung by Broadway and cabaret favorites, as well as some of NYC's best comedians (including commentary from our very own Statler & Waldorf).
The concert featured: James Monroe Iglehart (Tony Award winner, Aladdin, Memphis); Lesli Margherita (Olivier Award winner, Dames At Sea, Matilda the Musical); Stephanie D'Abruzzo (Tony Award nominee, Avenue Q, Sesame Street); Rick Lyon (Avenue Q, Sesame Street); Laura Shoop (She Loves Me); The Skivvies (Nick Cearley & Lauren Molina); Mara Wilson (Matilda, Welcome to Night Vale, author - Where Am I Now?); Max Crumm (Disaster!, The Fantasticks, Grease); Emily Padgett (Bright Star, Side Show); Brian Gonzales (Aladdin; One Man, Two Guvnors; Shrek the Musical; ...Spelling Bee); Julia Mattison (Godspell, Ruby Manger, Brooklyn Sound); Grace McLean (Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812; Brooklynite); Molly Pope (Molly Pope Likes Your Status, Found); George Salazar (Be More Chill, Here Lies Love, Godspell); Noah Forman (The Chris Gethard Show, Improvised Seinfeld); and Dru Johnston (Andy Kaufman Award winner, The Chris Gethard Show, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). Music Direction by Ben Caplan. Produced and Directed by Philip Romano.
An encore performance is set for Sunday, August 28 at 9:30, featuring both new and returning performers. For more information and tickets, go to 54below.com/muppets - the code WAKA35 can be used for 35% off through next Friday (7/22).
