On Monday, August 14, Jim Caruso's Cast Party at Birdland was the place for an enormous variety of musical talent, with Caruso hosting, Billy Stritch accompanying on the eighty-eights, and the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra (Steve Doyle on bass and Daniel Glass on drums).
Grammy nominated, platinum-selling saxophone player Dave Koz thrilled the crowd, just as he will do tonight when he headlines at the Hollywood Bowl! Singer/impersonator Christina Bianco and Brad Simmons gave a taste of their upcoming Birdland concert, which will take place on Monday, September 4. "Madame Secretary" actor Erich Bergen sang from his "Jersey Boys" film past. Julia Goodwin and Nick Ziobro, two winners of the Michael Feinstein Great American Songbook High School Vocal Competition, showed off their incredible musical talents. Luke Hawkins, fresh from starring in Kiss Me Kate, tapped his feet off for the cheering crowd. There were swinging performances by Nicolas King, Denise Reis, Morgan Mastrangelo, David Raleigh and Brandon Bain. And Storm Large sang a twisted and slightly blue version of "Hopelessly Devoted To You" that everyone lucky enough to be in the room is still talking about! Is it any wonder the Los Angeles Times called Cast Party "show biz mecca?"
Birdland is located at 315 West 44 Street, in the heart of Manhattan's Theater District. The Broadway at Birdland concert series takes place every Monday at7pm, followed by Jim Caruso's Cast Party at 9:30pm.
