Adrienne Haan, one of Europe's and America's most electrifying concert and cabaret stars, debuted her new show, Rock Le Cabaret! at The Cutting Room on April 18. Haan was joined by her five-piece rock band for a rock version of French chansons from the 1920s and 30s. Check out photos from the show below!
The Robert R. Blume (Drama Desk Awards) and Joseph Barry production included Ms. Haan's "extremely talented" rock band, featuring two of Germany's top jazz artists, pianist Laia Genc, and drummer Ralf Gessler, along with guitarist Braden Palmer, a founding member of the New York based swing band Double Down, bassist Adam Kabak, who has performed with greats such as Bobby Watson, Victor Lewis, Oleg Butman, Wynton Marsalis and George Cables, and highly regarded New York based performer, arranger and composer Kyle Schweizer on tenor sax and keyboards.
Renowned French artist Philippe Valy had a cameo appearance during Haan's performance of Charles Aznavour's La Bohéme. Valy's works, which are collected worldwide, were featured in the lobby before and after the show. Among his collectors are President Bill Clinton, and Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
Among the audience members were German Ambassador to the U.N. Harald Braun, Romanian Ambassador to the U.N. Simona Miculescu, Cultural Attaché of the Consulate of Luxembourg Laurence Pierron, dancer/actress/singer Marya Coburn, film producer and screenwriter Tom Waters, Russian designer Olga Papkovitch, and Rock Le Cabaret! producers Robert R. Blume and Joseph Barry.
Hailed as "an all-round entertainer of the highest caliber," award-winning Adrienne Haan's diverse repertoire ranges from chanson to jazz, blues, klezmer and Broadway, and she has a special passion for the music of the 1920s and 30s. Recent and upcoming engagements include Haan's debut with the Jerusalem Symphony and The Israel Netanya Orchestra, as well as appearances with the WDR Rundfunkorchester and Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks among others. Haan will make her Carnegie Hall debut October 29, 2015 in her production of Tehorah. The Carnegie concert is in celebration of the 50th anniversary of German-Israeli diplomatic relations in New York. Additional recent New York engagements include a concert for the Mabel Mercer Cabaret Foundation and at the Ellington Center for the Arts in a special Duke Ellington 115th birthday celebration. Upcoming New York shows include a sold-out evening at the Neue Galerie's Café Sabarsky entitled Between Fire & Ice on May 7, and her Till The End of Time show at The National Arts Club on June 26.
Her latest CD, Berlin, Mon Amour, hailed as "engaging and unique," is a tribute to 1920s and 30s Germany. Earlier recordings include I Could Have Danced All Night, and Born to Entertain. Adrienne serves on the Board of the Duke Ellington Center For The Arts in NYC and as a cultural ambassador, she has performed at the Luxembourg and German Embassies in Washington, DC, and German Consulate of New York.
