75 - year old singer Tonia Tecce has made her long-delayed New York City cabaret debut last night at The Metropolitan Room. Previously, Ms Tecce has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Philadelphia's KimMel Center for the Performing Arts Academy of Music, and sung with Peter Nero and many orchestras . Her show, A Cockeyed Optimist, Why We Believe, The Songs of Richard Rodgers, was written and directed by Michael Bush.

Ms Tecce began singing in her home town of Paulsboro, NJ at age 8. She studied music and voice and performed extensively and was headed for a music career when love intervened. One week after singing at her graduation from Rosemont College, she married Frederick Tecce and devoted the next twenty-five years to raising their six children. She now has 12 grandchildren.

Her musical director was pianist Tom Lawton. Byron Olson, her music arranger has worked extensively in the recording industry collaborating with producers Phil Ramone, Mike Berniker, Quincy Jones,Ettore Strata and John Vanore. He has written arrangements for Johnny Mathis, Jack Jones, Gloria Estefan, Bernadette Peters, Cy Coleman, Perry Como, Peggy Lee, Linda Eder, Dionne Warick, and many others. Mr. Olson has received a Grammy Nomination for Best Arrangement Accompanying a Vocalist. Mr. Olson arranged and orchestrated Tonia Tecce's debut CD "What A Wonderful World." He conducted the Byron Olson Chamber Orchestra for "An Evening Of Song With Tonia Tecce."

Performances will be on Sunday September 15 @ 7PM and Thursday September 26th @ 9:30 PM at The Metropolitan Room 34 W. 22nd Street.
