Barrington Stage Company (BSC), the award-winning theatre in Downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Managing Director Tristan Wilson, kicked off the 2014 Summer Concert Series with Tony Award-winner Tommy Tune in Taps, Tunes, and Tall Tales last night and BroadwayWorld was there.
Broadway's tallest tapper took to the Boyd-Quinson Mainstage - dancing, singing and tale-telling of his 50 years of big time showmanship. The show featured Tommy Tune's musical director Michael Biagi.
Tune is a nine-time Tony Award winner for his work on Seesaw, A Day in Hollywood / A Night in the Ukraine, Nine, My One and Only,Grand Hotel, and The Will Rogers Follies. In addition, he has been awarded eight Drama Desk Awards, three Astaire Awards and the Society of Directors and Choreographers' George Abbott Award for Lifetime Achievement. He was honored with The Helen Hayes Tribute in 2011.
Tune's film credits include Hello, Dolly!, The Boy Friend, and Mimi Bluette...fiore del mio giardino. In 2009, Tune was designated as a Living Landmark by the New York Landmarks Conservancy. Tune is the recipient of the National Medal of Arts, the highest honor for artistic achievement given by the President of the United States, and he has been honored with his own star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame.
