There was music and entertainment magic at The Green Room 42 last night as program director Daniel Dunlow presented the world of The "Genies' JukeBox" featuring the stars of Disney's Aladdin.
Major Attaway, the current Genie, joined forces with the Genie Standbys, Juwan Crawley and Deonté L. Warren, in an eclectic trio show in which a Bass, a Mezzo, and a Tenor joined together on stage and the magic happened. These three talents brought together an eclectic set of Disney classics, theater showstoppers and pop hits by Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross. The show was directed by Daniel Dunlow, and featured music direction by Eric Fotre Leach.
The Green Room 42 recently celebrated its year anniversary as the theater districts premiere destination for live music and events and the supper club with affordable prices, great menu, and cool way to call the friendly waitstaff, was packed with an overjoyed and enthusiastic room full of Genie, Aladdin and music lovers.
As the Genies pointed out at the beginning of the evening, the first requirements to become a Genie is you have to shave your head and have to fit through that hole on the stage of Aladdin.
They forgot to mention that you also have to be a fantastic singer. The three Genies put on a killer show and the Yotel was rocking on 42nd street.
Major Attaway is currently starring at the Genie in Broadway's Aladdin, after making his Broadway debut as standby for Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart, who originated the role. Attaway's regional credits include Ragtime, Big River, Hands on a Hardbody, Little Shop of Horrors, and Rent. He's performed as a soloist with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and has lent his vocal talents to commercials.
Juwan Crawley, who has been a standby for both Babkak and The Genie in Broadway's production of Aladdin, is currently the standby for Major Attaway. He earned the role at age 22, making him the youngest Genie in Broadway history. He earned a Clive Barnes Award nomination for his performance in the original cast of the popular satire Spamilton and recently made his debut at New York's Feinstein's/54 Below. A composer, lyricist and songwriting as well as a singer, he also recently produced his debut EP, Awakenings (Mind).
DEONTÉ L. WARREN, a veteran of the national and international tours of Dreamgirls and Sister Act, as well as regional productions of Shrek, Disney's Tarzan, Hairspray and Smoky Joe's Café, joined the cast of Broadway's Aladdin as a standby for the Genie, Babkak and the Sultan. He also recently made his NY solo debut at Feinstein's/54 Below.
