Marilyn doesn't have to sing "I Love Being Here With You" in New York City anymore. She always would motion for a response after the lyric "I wanna hear you call my name" and the audience would always shout out MARILYN. That song was not in her show. There's no need for MM to ask for recognition in this town. If you don't know that MARILYN means Marilyn Maye you are not a New Yorker. Personally, if I ask someone "when are you seeing Marilyn" and then get a confused look, I immediately know I'm talking to someone who doesn't get it.
Marilyn is a must experience for anyone who gets turned on by sitting in a cabaret and hearing one of the greats of all time.
Maybe it was because all of a sudden Marilyn sounded like a Jewish Cantor on the last few bars of "I'll Survive" but watching Billy Stritch work with her made me all of a sudden think of a Bagel & Lox. They are great individually, but put them together and you have something really special.
When I type in MAR to my computer or iphone ILYN MAYE is quickly added by auto spell. MM has been around for a while but is as current as the newest Apple devise. The last four songs of her show define her......"I'm Still Here", "The Secret Of Life", "Here's To Life", and "It's Today".
