Talented dynamic people always seem to find each other. I don't know who found who first, but the uber talented Jennifer Diamond and the dynamic creative director Richard Jay-Alexander combined forces a while back and the outcome was Jennifer's debut performance at The Green Room 42 last night which was something extra special.

It's her third Manhattan date over the past year, after having played Joe's Pub and Feinstein's / 54 Below. The show is called The Third Time's The Charm, the joke being (as she informs her audience), that she'll play every room in Manhattan, if she has to, until... she get's cast in a Broadway Show!

The evening was put together by director and long-time friend, Richard Jay-Alexander with Music Direction by Joseph Thalken and some swinging' musicians (Nate Brown - guitar, Dick Sarpola - bass, Perry Cavari - drums).

The conceit is the struggling actress in New York... only not so fresh, maybe a little bitter, and totally tongue in cheek. Her musical choices are clever and her vocal styles, just as versatile. In past shows, she used to bitch about never being cast as one of the daughters in Fiddler on the Roof, and now having given up on that, her new focus is bitching about productions of Evita, once again, always being the cover and never landing the role. To add further complication to her madness, is the fact that now, producers are looking for Latinas to play the role. She had the audience in hysterics asking one simple question... "were Patti LuPone, Elaine Paige, or Madonna Latina?" and as the audience laughs, she rests her case. She then regales us with her friend, Josh Young, who played Che in the National Tour. They did The Waltz for Eva and Che to the delight of the audience. Josh then sang Heaven on Their Minds from Jesus Christ Superstar, which he did on Broadway.

Ms. Diamond played full advantage of playing on 42nd Street with a great opener, and took us through a lot of showtunes, some pop, and some rock. This talented gal should not have any trouble landing that Broadway Show.
