Jamie deRoy's Friar Membership and her long running Jamie deRoy & friends Variety Show are about the same age. Jamie became a member in 1988 along with Liza Minnelli, Joan Rivers and Brooke Shields. Jamie brought this edition of the show to the Friars Club last night and the Frank Sinatra Dining Room was filled with Friars and Jamie's friends as they dined and were entertained by some of the best in the business.
Powerful singers Nicole Henry, Haley Swindal, KLea Blackhurst and N'Kenge supplied the vocals and the charismatic Ron Abel was at the Friars piano, which by the way has been played by some of the most important musicians on the planet. Comic Reese Waters was hysterical. At one point he asked a single lady in the audience "what do you look for in a man?" When the reply was "tall, dark, and handsome" Reese then asked "how about CHEAP?" It was a fun night, and Jamie acting and singing like she was no older then her membership hosted a great evening which as usual was directed by Barry Kleinbort. Barry, who always writes new parodies for these events had his question answered when Klea & Jamie sang "The Grass Is Always Greener" What's so Wonderful?........The Friars enthusiastically replied...This show!
The next edition of Jamie deRoy & friends will be her annual "Tony" Show at Birdland on May 7th
