Gabrielle Stravelli - the acclaimed pop/jazz vocalist called "ingenious" by The Wall Street Journal and known from her tours with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, appearances at the 92nd Street Y and her long-running Soho jazz brunch - is in the midst an exclusive two week engagement at The Metropolitan Room and broadwayworld was there.
Her new show, directed by nightlife legend Marilyn Maye, included selections from her debut CD Waiting in Vain and preview tracks for her upcoming sophomore release. The evening featured classic standards like "While We're Young" and "Goody Goody," pop hits such as "Young Folks" (Peter, Bjorn and John) and "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" (John Fogerty), in addition to distinctive original compositions. She was joined by Joshua Richman on piano, Pat O'Leary on bass and Eric Halvorson on drums.
GABRIELLE STRAVELLI will perform at The Metropolitan Room (34 West 22nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues) for four performances from July 17 to 31. Performances are Thursday, July17; Tuesday, July 22; Tuesday, July 29 and Thursday, July 31. All shows are at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $20 each with an additional two-drink minimum.
