Eva Kantor, 2012 MetroStar Finalist, brings her first solo show "The Way I Am" to The Laurie Beechman Theatre, now through April 21, 2013, directed by Eric Michael Gillett, with musical direction by Don Rebi and produced by Cookie Stark. BroadwayWorld brings you photos from her performance below!
"In a world full of people who judge you and your choices, you need to find the one person who accepts you the way you are." That is the theme of this show, Eva Kantor's solo debut in cabaret, but in Eva's professional life, she is finding many people accepting of her great talent. It is not a cliché to say that she is an artist on her way up.
In addition to placing in the MetroStar finals, Eva has recently played at The Players Club for KT Sullivan and the Mabel Mercer Foundation to great acclaim. Out of that, she was asked to sing at Rose Hall in October at the Mercer Cabaret Convention.
Eva began acting at an early age and quickly excelled. She has played roles such as Eva Peron in Evita, Penny in Hairspray at the Weston Playhouse alongside Broadway veterans Marissa Perry and Jay A. Johnson, and the title role in the national tour of Nancy Ford and Gretchen Cryer's Anne of Green Gables.
She is a recipient of the first ever fully funded scholarship at the Singer's Forum/Actor's Equity scholarship program, where she is currently studying with Eric Michael Gillett.
The show has been directed by Eric Michael Gillett, known as an actor, singer, and director. Mr. Gillett's own cabaret shows have included "Cast of Thousands: The Songs of Craig Carnelia" (for which Eric was named MAC's Major Male Vocalist of 2012),"It Takes Two: The Duets of Stephen Sondheim" (with Melanie Vaughan), "Best of My Love," and his critically-lauded collection of radio songs of the past forty years, "Hook, Line, and Singer." Mr. Gillett has directed some of the top ladies in cabaret including Karen Akers, Marieann Meringolo, KT Sullivan, Sheera Ben-David, Lari White, and Raissa Katona Bennett. He is the recipient of both the MAC Award for Outstanding Direction and the Dick Gallagher Award, bestowed by the Mabel Mercer Foundation, for his unique contributions to the art of cabaret. www.ericmichaelgillett.com
