The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel welcomeed the elegant and sophisticated pianist/singer, Ms. Jo Thompson, for its new "Second Act, A Late Night Series of Fun and Entertainment" at the Café Carlyle from March 21st-23rd, and continuing on March 28th and 30th. MS. Thompson plays piano and vamps, purrs and romps her way through jazz and standards from the 1930s through the present, along with her own original material in her new program, "Slender, Tender and Tall - An Evening With Ms. Jo Thompson". She is joined by bassist, Calvin Hill, and drummer, Mike Campenni. BroadwayWorld was there for her first performance and brings you photos below!
"Slender, Tender and Tall - An Evening With Ms. Jo Thompson" is an evening of song and musical conversation from the Great American Jo Thompson Songbook. Which is to say, Jo Thompson swings and sings from Ellington and Cole Porter to Bessie Smith and Gershwin. Her brand of entertainment is turning the room into an elegant dinner party in the tradition of the golden days of nightclub performance ala Lena Horne, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Short and so many other sophisticated spirits who may be gone, but never should be forgotten. As a Backstage Hall of Fame inductee, she shares the company of luminaries Eartha Kitt, Rosemary Clooney and her friend, Bobby Short.
Café Carlyle is located in The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel (35 East 76th Street @ Madison Avenue). Ms. Jo Thompson will play as part of the "Second Act, A Late Night Series of Fun and Entertainment," Thursdays through Saturdays at 10:45pm from March 21st to March 23rd and March 28th and March 30th. There is a $25 per person + $25 combined food and drink minimum on Thursdays and a $30 per person + $25 combined food and drink minimum on Fridays and Saturday.
