With a Sammy Davis Jr. type physicality, high collar tie-less open white dress shirt, and tux from the "slim" section, Buster Poindexter let loose with a musical show that had the Cafe Carlyle crowd swinging, rocking, and laughing like few acts in the legendary room ever do. What's great about Buster is that he is serious about entertaining an audience, and what appears to be a slick act from the glory days of Vegas late night lounges is in reality some pretty great music. It's packaged in his well honed showmanship and a wonderful band that is an integral part of the musical festivities. These are not musicians who can't wait for the gig to be over. It's not uncool to be cool like Buster and everybody must be on the same page because do to overwhelming demand The Carlyle had to add an extra late show onSaturday Oct 25th. Just like those late Las Vegas nights!
As a founding member of the New York Dolls and in a prolific solo career, David Johansen has been a seminal force in rock and roll, influencing countless singer and bass to this day. Buster Poindexter, Johansen's celebrated alter ego showcases his elegant crooning at Cafe Carlyle Oct. 21-25.
