If this Jamie deRoy 25th Anniversary Show was competing against some of those great Ed Sullivan variety episodes it would have been no contest. First of all, Jamie knows how to give an introduction, is an entertainer herself, and the best in entertainment business sign up to be in a Jamie deRoy & friends show . The Actors Fund presented this 40th annual 30th Jamie Birthday show and it was truly a spectacular event with some of the most talented performers on the stage at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at the john Jay College of Criminal Justice. The only crime last night was that the event wasn't televised live but I'm sure excerpts will be available on Jamie's cable TV show and through the facilities of The Actors Fund.
Barry Kleinbort wrote, directed and steered this entertainment masterpiece and Ron Abel, pianist/arranger and orchestrator for the stars, Jamie's music director led an expanded orchestra. The musicians superbly filled the theatre with great sounds as they accompanied some of the most illustrious singers from the Broadway stage. Luba Mason, Larry Gatlin, Robert Cuccioli and Michele Lee sang for Jamie (and her friends) in that order, (I'll leave the surprise for the end). Joy Behar had the audience in hysterics with humor that you will not hear on The View, Daisy Jopling with her Violin pyrotechnics thrilled, and Jay Johnson was funnier than Senor Wences or Ricky Lane & Velvel on those Sullivan shows. The Actors Fund then surprised the birthday girl with it's chairman of the board coming on stage and the audience were on their feet as Brian Stokes Mitchell sang it's It's A Wonderful World. The was a truly wonderful evening and Broadwayworld was there.
