In his first solo New York club date in over ten years, the singer and actor Philip Chaffin celebrates the success of his latest recording, "When the Wind Blows South," in an exclusive three-week engagement at The Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, beginning Wednesday May 6 at 7:30pm. The album, Chaffin's third, was released last year by PS Classics.

Uniquely blending the sounds of Chaffin's southern roots with the music of Broadway and Hollywood, the album brings a country swing to Frank Loesser, a Tennessee twang to George and Ira Gershwin, and a Sondheim-like theatricality to John Denver. "When the Wind Blows South" performs on three consecutive Wednesdays May 6, 13, and 20, all at 7:30pm. The show, Chaffin's Metropolitan Room debut, features the project's music director Sam Davis on piano.

Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Chaffin appears in concerts ("Encores!" "Lyrics and Lyricists"), and in regional theatre productions throughout the country. He is also featured in numerous studio and cast recordings, many of which are produced by PS Classics, the label he helped launch and for which he serves as A&R director. Dedicated to the heritage of Broadway and American popular song, PS Classics' roster includes Maureen McGovern, Christine Ebersole, Christine Andreas, Brent Barrett, Rebecca Luker, Jason Danieley, Jessica Molaskey and Victoria Clark. Its cast albums - including "Nine: The Musical," "Assassins,8 0 "Grey Gardens," and "Company" - have been honored with four Grammy nominations.

"When the Wind Blows South" performs on three consecutive Wednesdays: May 6, 13, 20, all at 7:30pm. Chaffin's music charge is $20. For reservations call 212/206-0440. Rated "Best of New York" by New York Magazine, the Nightlife and Bistro Award-winning Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, celebrates its third anniversary in May. www.metropolitanroom.com
