Grammy Award Winner Julie Gold returns to her "home" in the West Village, the Duplex Cabaret Theatre, performing her series "An Evening with Julie Gold" on the 1st Monday of every other month starting this month, tonight, October 1.
Julie is a New York songwriter best known for her song, "FROM A DISTANCE," which was made famous by Bette Midler and won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1991. A wide range of recording artists have covered it, including Jewel, Cliff Richard, The African Children's Choir, Judy Collins, The Byrds and Donna Summer – just to name a few.
Other artists who have covered Julie Gold songs include Patti LaBelle, Patti LuPone, Lea Salonga and Andrea Marcovicci. Gold's Emmy-nominated lyric, "WE'RE 4 NEW YORK" is currently running on the local NBC affiliate. Her song, "THANKS TO YOU" was featured in the motion picture ANDRE, and her song "DREAM LOUD" was featured in the motion picture UNFAITHFUL, starring Richard Gere.
Julie's Special Guest this month legendary songwriter Peter Yarrow from Peter, Paul & Mary. He is a beloved National Treasure and composer of songs such as Puff, the Magic Dragon, "Day is Done", "Light One Candle" and "The Great Mandala." He also co-wrote "Torn Between Two Lovers", which became a number one hit for Mary McGregor.
