'OPENING DOORS' Concert to Highlight Three Composing Teams at LPR This Month

"Opening Doors: The Music of Maglione & Ruiz, Lyons & Pakchar, and Rosser & Sohne" is set for Monday, December 14, 2015 at 7:30 PM at (Le) Poisson Rouge.

The concert highlights the music of three different composing teams as they celebrate the ups and downs of collaboration. This night will feature an eight-piece band, Broadway performers, and rising talent in new musical theatre. Opening Doors is dedicated to anyone who's ever opened a door for someone else before they let themselves in.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Maglione & Ruiz

David Maglione and Tomas Ruiz began writing together during the summer of 2013. An idea to write a song for the Gypsy Housing Facebook page became a one act musical and a sold-out debut concert "The Music of Maglione & Ruiz... Wait, Who?" at Stage 72, The Triad. Their first musical, Wendy's Shadow, recently was featured in NYMF'S Concert Series and was named one of Playbill.com's "Top 10 Shows Not Too Miss At NYMF." Their music has been featured at The Laurie Beechman, 54 Below, NJ, and around the country.

Lyons & Pakchar

In 2012 Lyons and Pakchar met while touring with The 1st National Tour of The Book of Mormon. Douglas Lyons an actor onstage and Ethan Pakchar a guitarist in the pit. Their debut album #Love (Live) was nominated Best New Live Album of 2014 by Broadwayworld.com.

L & P's NYC appearances include NAMT's Songwriter Sessions, Lincoln Center's Future Songbook Series, Broadway Unlocked, Cutting Edge Composers and more; plus sold-out concerts at Rockwood Music Hall, The Cutting Room, 54 Below, New Voices at Seattle Rep and Broadway Au Carré in Paris, France. Most recently the team was in residence at Goodspeed's 2014 Johnny Mercer Songwriting Project and at The Music Theatre Factory with their new musical Five Points.

Douglas Lyons, who tackles lyrics and music, is currently in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical on Broadway. His other credits include Pageant, The Book of MormonBroadway/1st Nat'l & tours of Dreamgirls and Rent. Ethan Pakchar, who crafts music and orchestration, currently holds the guitar chair in Second Stages Invisible Thread and has played for Broadway productions of Hamilton,Wicked, Book of Mormon, Kinky Boots and more . In addition to their show Five Points the two are developing an original musical for Tony-Award winning actress Lillias White.

Rosser & Sohne

Charlie Sohne and Tim Rosser are winners of the 2015 Jonathan Larson Award, writers in the 2015 Rhinebeck Retreat and 2014-2015 Dramatists Guild Fellows. Charlie and Tim were also members of Civilian's R&D Group and ASCAP's Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project. Recently, they participated in 24 Hour Musicals, where their short show "A Better Me" featured Edie Falco. Their show "The Boy Who Danced On Air" was featured at NAMT in 2013, received development and production grants from NAMT in 2014 and 2015 and will receive its world premiere at The Diversionary Theater in San Diego in the Spring of 2016. Their show "The Profit of Creation" was seen at the Yale Institute for Music Theater. Tim and Charlie's songs have been seen at their sold-out 54 Below show, Birdland, Contemporary Classics at Seattle Rep, Cutting Edge Composers at Joe's Pub, ALNM at Rockwell in Los Angeles, Above The Arts in London, a sold out show at Broadway au Carre in Paris and will be performed at the Kennedy Center this fall.

Separately Charlie has had work seen at The Lark, The O'Neill and NY Stage and Film, while Tim has conducted performances of "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" on Broadway, music directed "Broadway Backwards" and associate music directed Andrew Lippa's "I Am Harvey Milk."
