She also has performed on stage, including three world premiere musicals, Ragtime, Me and Mrs. Jones (with Lou Rawls) and Ten Commandments The Musicalplaying Val Kilmer's wife; on screen in The Bodyguard; television shows such as "Fresh Prince," and studio recordings. Most recently, Nita was a finalist on the NBC singing show "The Winner Is," as a mother-daughter duo with her youngest daughter Liisi. In June of 2013 Nita executive produced Rent-unplugged in Los Angeles.

Ms. Nita Whitaker LaFontaine's inspirational memoir entitled: Finding My Voice: My journey through Grief to Grace-Living with the loss of Don LaFontaine, won TWO 2013 national book awards from Reader Excellence Indie Awards and a third award from Indie Discovery Excellence. In his honor she established In A World with Books, a non-profit whose mission is to give books to underserved elementary children that they can own.

Christine Toy Johnson will appear in the final installment of the "Three Voices" concert series on Monday, November 11th at 7pm.
