Richard Pepenella presents Red Hot & New: A Songwriters' and Singers' Soiree, the newest weekly party to hit the theater and cabaret scene, at Ido Sushi in New York on Thursday, November 4th at 8:30PM.
This week we are proud to present the composer of Broadway's Glory Days Nick Blaemire and our up and coming composer of the week Joel Waggoner.
Red Hot & New where Manhattan's most acclaimed theater and cabaret composers and lyricists will share the spotlight with some of her newest up and coming songwriters. Featuring some of their favorite singers as well as other special guests. Then you'd better bring your books because the microphone opens to the audience where songwriters and singers alike have the chance to perform their favorite songs until closing.
The evening is hosted by the comedic and eccentric chanteuse of the West Village piano bars and cabarets, Suzanne Pilzer. Accompanied this week by our guest pianist, the lovely and talented Kat Sherrell.
Our featured composer Nick Blaemire is a 26 year old songwriter and performer living in New York City. His first full length musical, Glory Days (book by James Gardiner), received a critically-acclaimed, sold-out run at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA under the direction of Eric Schaeffer, and moved to the Circle in the Square Theatre in the spring of 2008, where it ran for one day - but it was still very fun and he wouldn't trade it for the world. He is currently writing the music and lyrics for the new original musical FINDING ROBERT HUTCHENS (book by Paul Downs Colaizzo), on commission for Broadway Across America, as well as two other new musicals, a network television pilot and an EP of pop songs. As a performer, Nick made his Broadway debut in CRYBABY (while Glory Days was running up the street, which was a very cool feeling) and will be featured in the upcoming world premiere of BRING IT ON, this winter at the ALLIANCE THEATRE in Atlanta. He is a proud graduate of the University of Michigan.
Our up and coming songwriter, Joel Waggoner, recently recieved his M.F.A from the NYU Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program. He received the ASCAP Max Dreyfus Award for promise as a musical theater composer for 2009-2010. He has recently written a bluegrass rock musical, Carolina Breeze, with words by Lori Mannette, as well as a folk-rock one-act musical This Is Us with book/lyrics by Leah Miles. Joel received his B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa with a double major in Vocal Performance and Violin. Joel's work has been featured in William Finn's concert series "Ridiculously Talented Composers and Lyricists You Probably Don't Know, But Should..." at Barrington Stages in 2009 and Merkin RecitAl Hall in 2010, as well as in his own cabaret series "Rhymes with Soul: The Songs of Joel". He currently teaches Voice for MTCA, (www.mtcollegeauditions.com) and works as a freelance music director and vocal coach in New York City.
