Singer/songwriter and pop culture icon Bebe Buell returns to New York to celebrate the release of her new record Baring It All: Greetings From Nashbury Park with a special one-night only live performance and record release event at Joe's Pub at 425 Lafayette Street in Manhattan on Sunday, April 29th at 9:30pm.
Buell is "baring it all" at Joe's Pub in honor of her new album Baring It All: Greetings From Nashbury Park. The singer and iconic pop culture muse will be performing songs from the new record and telling insider tales of her fabled rock-n-roll life, bringing her unique blend of storytelling and powerhouse rock n roll to the stage. Her electrifying performances always leave audiences feeling inspired and elated.
The 12 song Baring It All: Greetings From Nashbury Park, her most personal effort to date, was recorded in Bebe Buell's two favorite music cities, Nashville, TN and Asbury Park, NJ. The new record is being officially released on MainMan Records on April 20th, and, in honor of National Record Store Day on April 21st, will be offered on limited-edition vinyl as well as on CD. The record will be available on all outlets nationwide.
Featured musicians on the album include Buell's husband and producer Jimmy Walls on guitars, drummer Sandy Gennaro (Cyndi Lauper, Joan Jett), bassist Dave Roe (Johnny Cash, Dan Auerbach) and Peter Gallinari on keyboards. This album culminates her decades long career and brings her back to New York City, after having relocated to Nashville, TN four years ago, where she has graced several of Music City's most coveted stages, including the famed Bluebird Café where she quickly became a local favorite, selling out her live shows.
Standout tracks on the album include the anthem-like "By A Woman", which was written four years ago and certainly goes hand-in-hand with today's political and social climate. Buell remarks..... "It's a passionate topic for me and my musical message here is to fight the "isms"- sexism, ageism and everything-ism. This isn't just a "now" #metoo sentiment... it's an ongoing fight for equality on all fronts! It's the first song on the album for a reason". "Cross My Legs", always an audience favorite at Buell's recent live shows, came to her when friend Jon Tiven suggested the title...."I wasn't sure about it. But upon reflection it harkened me back to my youth and my etiquette instructor momma always telling me to sit with my legs crossed. When I saw the metaphor, the lyrics just poured out of me and it became an autobiography in one song".
She wrote "Can You Forgive" for and about longtime love Todd Rundgren and their much documented story..... "Yes, there's a song for almost every relationship and situation starting from the early 70s and this song is, of course, to Todd. It's my Olive Branch and my ode to him and our history". The lyrics to "Hello Music City" started in her NYC kitchen right before moving to Nashville. She comments that... "It embodies my love/hate feelings for NYC coupled with my inspired new life in Nashville, which I love, but NYC will always be part of who I am and it's etched in my soul forever"!
Other highlights on Baring It All: Greetings From Nashbury Park are "Guilty As Charged," a song about passion and love, which showcases Jimmy Walls' astounding guitar talents and Buell's cover of "Yesterday When I was Young", of which she explains.... "It was my mother Dorothea who suggested this song for me. I did it live when I played in the Northeast last summer and the audience response convinced us to record a version and make it our own. The song has so much history and it's writers are both in their 90s now. A classic that's been covered by many artists in the past, but hasn't been recorded in decades. It often brings me to tears when I sing it".
As most people know, Buell's rock-no-roll life was born, nurtured and developed right here in New York City. Her lengthy and respected musical career has shown her to be an important artist with razor sharp musical instincts; a singer, songwriter and performer with a power and command rarely seen in entertainers. Juice Magazine recently called her..."A Princess, a Queen, a mom, a rocker, a model and of course, an amazing singer!"
During the famed early seventies, Bebe Buell immersed herself in the downtown music and fashion scene, befriending such luminaries as Mick Jagger, Salvador Dali, Patti Smith, David Bowie and Andy Warhol to name a few. She has stories for days, as evident in her 2001 autobiography, Rebel Heart, which was a New York Times bestseller. She shares some of her best anecdotes during her live performances, adding a touch of "rock-n-roll cabaret" into the mix, earning her a very loyal and steady following.
