Mystery of the Silver Chalice, the interactive show with 11 different endings with 256,608 possibilities, introduces us to Rob, who's having trouble with the ladies. With the help of a slightly mischievous genie who lives inside the silver chalice, the audience votes via their remote controls on all the big choices on Rob's magical blind date! Will he go out with the beautiful wannabe model, the adorable girl-next-door, or the edgy poetess? What will he wear? What will he say? So many choices - and they're all up to you!
Your choice just might lead Rob to the girl of his dreams... or on the worst date in human history! His fate is in your hands! But no matter what you choose, it's going to be a hysterically wild ride - and it's different every night!
Mystery of the Silver Chalice allows the audience to decide the narrative throughout the show with a "remote" allowing them to vote on choices the protagonist must make. The votes are automatically tallied and displayed on a projection screen above the stage. The voting is integrated into the action of the script, creating a total audience engagement experience. No show is ever alike.
The show premiered at the Buffalo Lab Theatre in 2014 and subsequently transferred to the city's Shea Performing Arts Center. Both runs played to sold out houses. The Buffalo News called the show "so much fun" and praised "Doherty's smart, self-possessed and often wildly funny script - or at least the one script of many I saw on opening night. This production is a smart insertion of the language of sketch comedy into the structure of traditional theater."
NY Theatre Guide hailed the show as "incredibly entertaining. It allows each show to be completely different and you can go back to see it numerous times and still be surprised at the outcome. Taylor Doherty's script is simple, and he has created and directed a risky theatrical performance. The concept is great, and engaging. The audience embraces the opportunity to watch a live train wreck that they can help create. It also allows for a more memorable experience and a fresh performance each time. Mystery of the Silver Chalice is a great experience and I would suggest any theatre goers who want to see a unique and brand new type of theatre go see this show. Non-stop laughs and if you aren't laughing at the end of this show. . . it's your own fault. . .since you chose it to end that way!" Broadway World raved "As with any good laboratory, hypothesis and conjecture are needed to lead to breakthroughs and new discoveries."
