Momentum Artists to Present Secret Jazz NYC With Mark Berman Trio

Berman, on piano, will feature his original songs as well as his jazz arrangements of pop tunes, standards and new works, and will be joined by David Richards (Hamilton) on bass and Joe Nero (Peter Cincotti) on drums. A special guest for the evening is Darryl Tookes, an accomplished musician and collaborator of such megastars as Michael Jackson, Sting, Paul Simon, and many others. A jazz maverick and virtuoso pianist Mark Berman (who can be heard on the theme song of the HBO series Sex and the City) invites you to join him for a unique cabaret evening at Club Bonafide, one of the NYC's popular blues and jazz clubs. The audience will experience one of the best and most in-demand pianists working in NYC today, playing a gorgeous 1935 Mason & Hamlin grand piano at a jazz hot-spot, an intimate club made famous by iconic bassist Richard Bona, on legendary jazz row - 52nd Street.

The guest star of the evening will be Darryl Tookes, a prolific composer, lyricist, pianist, singer and arranger who is recognized throughout the music world as a truly original, uncompromising artist. Tookes has sung at Carnegie Hall with Roberta Flack, recorded and toured with Sting, and performed at the White House for President and Ms. Clinton. Tookes sang on the recording and the PBS Television show Great Performances with Leonard Bernstein conducting West Side Story, and on Soulful Messiah with Quincy Jones. Mr. Tookes has worked with producer Phil Ramone, the composer and pianist Dave Grusin, George Benson, Aretha Franklin, Laurie Anderson, Carly Simon, Diana Ross and many others.

"He has something to say with his music, and he says it extremely well, in his own expertly evolving musical language - a language I was honored to express with him as a part of his Genesis Project some years ago. The series, initiated in 2017 as an artistic collaboration between Berman and his artist manager Lena Khandros, is meant to provide a unique, "only-in-New York" experience for both city dwellers and out-of-town visitors. "We want our guests to experience a truly intimate and immersive show, representing the best New York City has to offer, that crosses a broad spectrum of musical styles, from jazz to cabaret, from new original music to Broadway, from comedy to storytelling, topping it all of with occasional delightful open mic moments," says Khandros. Berman, who counts among his musical friends such performers as the veteran Broadway singer Ken Ard (Smokey Joe's Cafe) and Tony Award-winning actress LaChanze (Summer, the Donna Summer Musical; The Color Purple) promises a lot of surprise guests, from Broadway, film and TV to the jazz scene.

Mark Berman is a renowned pianist, composer, and music producer whose piano playing can be heard on the theme song of the HBO series Sex and the City (He was even featured in an episode!) Mark collaborated with the proverbial who's who of jazz, pop and rock: Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Hugh Jackman, Chita Rivera, and many others. He is also a powerful presence on Broadway, where he's conducted and played lead piano in Rent, Smokey Joes Cafe, Bullets Over Broadway, The Boy from Oz, Hairspray, 42nd Street, Radio City Spring Spectacular, Aida, The Color Purple, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, and Spider-Man.
