After the success of last year's U2 concert at Birdland, Linehan returns, this time with an all-new show, revealing new meaning within the unforgettable melodies and poetic lyrics of the world's biggest band. Performing U2 classics like "Sunday Bloody Sunday," "All I Want Is You," and of course, "One," Linehan explores the emotional content of the U2 songbook with a unique combination of passion and beauty. During the course of the show she will be joined by two special guest stars, to be announced. Tickets are $30-50 and available by visiting BirdlandJazz.com or calling 212.581.3080. Please note that Birdland has a $10 food and beverage minimum per guest. This benefit concert for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has musical direction by Ryan Shirar.
"To me, the lyrics of Bono and U2 are profoundly moving and thought provoking," said Linehan. "Their songbook deserves interpretation for generations to come. They may be the biggest band in the world, but they've also made a difference in millions of lives through their charitable endeavors. Please join us as we celebrate the remarkable songbook of U2 and raise funds for a wonderful cause - BC/EFA."
U2 has won 22 Grammy Awards, more than any other band; and, in 2005, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility. Joining Linehan for the concert are guest stars to be announced.
Critics have been unanimous in their praise for Linehan. The New York Times called her "fiercely talented ... she takes favorites that you thought you knew and infuses them with an intensely personal point of view." USA Today wrote, "Linehan lends her warm, throbbing voice to an inspired medley celebrating the kind of romantic love that endures." The Huffington Post called her "glorious, with a tender, thoughtful, and heartfelt voice that delivers both in musicality and emotion."
Maxine Linehan has performed at venues as diverse as Lincoln Center, Ars Nova, Birdland, and The Town Hall. She was acclaimed in off-Broadway, one woman drama, Bronte, starred in the First National Tour of the Lincoln Center production of South Pacific directed by Bartlett Sher, and has recorded three independent albums, including the brilliantly reviewed recording of Beautiful Songs.
The award-winning Broadway at Birdland concert series has been celebrating the stars and creators of the Great White Way for thirteen years.
