Maurice Hines To Host 40th Anniversary Concert Of EUBIE!  Image

Maurice Hines, who starred in the original production of EUBIE!, the Tony-nominated musical from 1978 that celebrates the songs and stories of celebrated music titan Eubie Blake, will host the show's 40th-anniversary celebration at Feinstein's/54 Below on Tuesday, July 10th, 2018 at 7:00 pm.

Artists scheduled to appear from the original production include Ethel Beatty Barnes (Dreamgirls), Leslie Dockery (Sophisticated Ladies), Lynnie Godfrey (No Place To Be Somebody), David Jackson (Grand Hotel), Mel Johnson Jr (The Lion King), Carol Maillard (Comin Uptown), Bernard J Marsh (Big Deal), Janet Powell (Jesus Christ Superstar), and Jeffrey V Thompson (Uptown...It's Hot!). They will be joined by LaDonna Burns (Follies) and Arbender Robinson (Shuffle Along).

Receiving three Tony Award nominations, including Best Original Score, EUBIE! opened at the Ambassador Theatre in 1978 and played over four hundred performances. The original production launched the careers of such artists as Gregory and Maurice Hines, Alaina Reed, and Marion Ramsey. The show was directed by Julianne Boyd.

EUBIE! features Blake's greatest songs including "Low Down Blues," "I'm Just Wild About Harry," "My Handyman Ain't Handy No More," " I'm Craving For That Kind Of Love," and so many more! The lyricists featured in EUBIE! include Mr. Blake, Noble Sissle, Andy Razaf, Johnny Brandon, F.E. Miller, and Jim Europe.

54 SINGS EUBIE will be directed and produced by Robert W. Schneider. The show will be music directed by Michael Mitchell. The associate producer will be Benjamin Nissen.

Schneider said, "The impact of Eubie Blake's music cannot be underlined enough. His compositions and structure are one of the pillars upon which the modern musical theatre is built. I am honored that we are allowed to bring back the works of Mr. Blake and with so many of the artists who had the honor of collaborating with him in 1978."
