The great Marilyn Maye delivers her annual one-two punch to ring in the new year at The Metropolitan Room with back-to-back shows on New Year's Eve, followed by two weeks of her incomparable "Marilyn by Request" party-shows from January 5 through January 14.
It's "The Biggest Party EVER!" in back-to-back shows on New Year's Eve, when Maye holds court with her world-class trio consisting of pianist/conductor Billy Stritch, bassist Tom Hubbard, and drummer Eric Halvorson. Then, the excitement continues when Maye and her trio settle in for a seven-night run of the hard-partying "Marilyn By Request" shows from January 5 to 14.
This will be Maye's 17th Metropolitan Room engagement since a historic one-night-only engagement that helped inaugurate the club in October 2006 ended a 15-year hiatus from performing in New York. Her first of many extended runs at the Met was in March 2007. Since then Maye has won every award and, best of all, electrified a whole new generation by introducing them to a free-wheeling American nightclub performance style.
With showtimes at 7:30pm and 10pm on Wednesday December 31, Marilyn hosts "The Biggest Party EVER!" Music charges are $59 per person for the early show, and $219 per person ($329 premium seating), open bar-inclusive, for the late show. The "By Request" shows have a hard-to-resist music charge of only $45 per person.
"Marilyn by Request" plays Thursday through Saturday January 5, 6, 7, and Wednesday through Saturday January 11, 12, 13, 14. All shows are at 7pm.
She was a "Best New Artist" Grammy nominee in 1965, and the raves just keep pouring in. This year alone she's been called, "a phenomenon of nature" by The Clyde Fitch Report, and "show business personified" by TheaterMania, which added that, "she is still one of the most exciting acts in cabaret." TheaterPizzazz observed that, "the one and only marvelous Ms. Maye can do no wrong. One day she has to sing the telephone book to prove it!" Maye holds the singers' record for appearances -- 76 -- on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
