MAC 'New Face Showcase' 6/25 at the Duplex

The Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs (MAC), this year celebrating its 25th Anniversary, presents some of its top up-and-coming talent in NEW FACE SHOWCASE, an evening of comedy and song on Wednesday, June 25th at 7pm at The Duplex. The NEW FACE SHOWCASE is one of many new initiatives sponsored by MAC to raise the profile the organization and of cabaret and live performance in New York City. In addition to showcases, MAC also produces educational and informative seminars and its annual awards show which honors the very best in NYC nightlife performance.

Scheduled to appear are vocalists KEVIN DOZIER, MEL & EL, JOYCE MOODY, MARVIN PARKS & SUSAN WINTER. The evening will be hosted by Rob Langeder, with JOE REGAN as the evening's musical director & Ritt Henn on bass. The showcase is produced by MAC Board members HECTOR CORIS & KEVIN KENNISON.

Rob Langeder, a 2007 MAC Award winner  has played Ritchie Valens in the National Tour of Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, was a cast member of cabaret hits The Question W Revue, Words Words Words & Music & Private Events In Public Places & has guest starred in the shows of such notables as Miles Phillips, Annie Hughes & Jason Wynn. KEVIN DOZIER was named "Male Cabaret Performer of the Year" in the San Francisco Cabaret Competition in 2003. He has performed with such acclaimed entertainers as Bobby McFerrin, Carmen McRae & Barry Manilow, headlined shows at The Plush Room & performed at the San Francisco War Memorial & Performing Arts Center, Lush Lounge & in various benefit concerts including 2 editions of Steve Murray's Viva Variety.  MEL & EL, (Melanie Adleman & Ellie Dvorkin), described as a musical "Laverne & Shirley" meets "Sex & the City," won the 2008 Back Stage Bistro Award for their song "Fagnet" (Best Musical Comedy Number). They continue to perform their critically acclaimed show Mel & El: This Show Rhymes at The Duplex while making appearances at venues around NYC including Ars Nova, The Zipper, Comix & Therapy. Having known each other since childhood, both Mel & El are thrilled that their faces are considered new. JOYCE MOODY is well known to Philadelphia audiences for her many appearances on stage, including as the Mother in Ragtime, Dolly in Hello, Dolly!, Babette in La Cage Aux Folles & in The Sound of Music & My Fair Lady at the Walnut Street Theatre.  She also appeared opposite Dick Van Dyke as Gloria Thorpe in the national tour of Damn Yankees & in NYC in the Irving Berlin tribute Say It With Music. For Wenhelm Productions' American Composer Series, she appeared in Rodgers Without The 'H' Factor (celebrating the music of Richard Rodgers without Hammerstein or Hart) & Sweet Mystery: The Music of Victor Herbert. MARVIN PARKS is a born & raised Baltimore jazz singer & composer, currently living in New York. Parks began singing at the age of 4 in his church choir, but began in journey into jazz & classic pop at age 15 & began writing his own material at age 21, his songwriting style compared to the likes of Sammy Cahn & James Van Heusen. In 1992, Parks won the Gold Medal in the NAACP ACT-SO Competition in the Music Vocal Contemporary category & between 2001 & 2004 & again in 2006, was a semi-finalist in Maryland's Billie Holiday Vocal Competition a record five times & is the only gentleman to have been named a finalist three times(2001,2002,2006). In 2002, he was chosen to participate in the Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead Residency at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, an educational & developmental program for jazz performers under the age of 30 who are also composers. SUSAN WINTER has been singing in & around New York clubs for many years. She has been known to perform with her own trio in intimate jazz spaces & has also performed with big bands, following the charts of the famous 30's and 40's singers. She was a 2008 MAC nominee for best female debut for her show, Million Dollar Matinee & earlier this June, presented Love Rolls On at the Metropolitan Room.

JOE REGAN (Musical Director) is a pianist/singer who plays for piano bars, cabaret rooms, corporate events & private parties in the New York Area. He has been Musical Director for individual & group cabaret shows, revues & benefit performances. He has played in the pit for several Off-Broadway shows & has opened for Steve Ross at the 75th  Anniversary of the Chrysler Building. He is a 2007 MAC Award Winner for "Best Revue" (Johnny Mercer Sings with Ricky Ritzel & Leslie Anderson). Ritt Henn (Bass) has 9 basses, 7 suits (8 counting the tux), 3 CDs of original songs (with the 4th due this year), 2 bikes (one's still in storage in L.A.) & 1 MAC Award.  He's also produced 202 episodes of ManBassBoxTV & garnered a Bistro Award.
