BMI/Bistro Award winner jazz/cabaret vocalist Linda Kosut returns to New York City with a one-night-only performance at Don't Tell Mama on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 8:15pm.
Don't Tell Mama is located at 343 West 46th St., New York. Cover: $20 + 2-drink min. (cash only). Reservations: 212.757.0788 or online at http://www.donttellmamanyc.com/.
Having just completed a successful 4-show run at San Francisco's prestigious nightclub, The Rrazz Room, Linda brings a "tasting" of each of those shows to New York - a "flight" of the unexpected - blending jazz, folk and cabaret styles into sparking renditions of songs by songwriters as diverse as Peggy Lee to Tom Paxton to Annie Lennox. Linda is known for this seamless weaving of genres and styles with her uniquely warm, dark sound.
Linda is joined by some of New York's finest musicians with Tedd Firth (Faith Prince, Marilyn Maye, John Pizzarelli, Houston Person), piano; Tom Hubbard (Laurel Massé, Chris Connor, Liza Minnelli, Sheila Jordan, Martha Reeves, Joe Williams, Freddy Cole), bass; Jeff Lederer (Matt Wilson Quartet, Jimmy Bosch's Salsa Dura, Grammy-nominated Bobby Sanabria Big Band) sax; and, Joe Abba (Jessica Simpson, Lew Soloff, David Cook), drums.
Growing up in New York City and transplanted to San Francisco over 20 years ago, Linda began pursuing her dream of performing several years ago as she approached "boomer" status, and she has not stopped since. "I am sure that I am not alone in my journey to satisfy a creative bug I've had my whole life; but one that up until now, I did not pursue," says Linda. "My audiences tell how my joy of performing is so infectious that they feel inspired. And it is my sheer pleasure to do so." Linda has performed to full houses at New York's Iridium Jazz Club to San Francisco's Yoshi's and The Rrazz Room.
Linda has recorded two solo CDs, the most-recent of which Long As You're Living, the songs & poetry of Oscar Brown Jr. - a heartfelt tribute to the late jazz great Oscar Brown Jr. - received BackStage Magazine's BISTRO/BMI AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING RECORDING, as well as nominations for BEST FEMALE JAZZ VOCALIST and BEST JAZZ RECORDING from MAC, Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs, and the Cabaret Hotline MEMBERS' CHOICE AWARD.
Through her company, Jizel Music and Design, Linda provides coaching to singers in both presentation and production, and designs marketing collateral for performers and performing arts organizations.
