LADY RIZO'S 5th ANNUAL NINA SIMONE TRIBUTE
Wednesday and Thursday, February 10 & 11 at 7:00PM
$30

The incomparable cabaret star Lady Rizo is back for an unchaperoned evening of song and decadence. For the fifth year, Rizo gathers herself and an array of New York City's best to pay homage to the premiere bad-ass in a gown - the High Priestess of Soul, Nina Simone. Lady Rizo's seamless mix of bawdy humor and elegance has been likened to Mae West but it's her vocal chops steal the show. She has collaborated with both Yo-Yo Ma & Moby, sung the American Songbook in front of the internationally acclaimed 36 -piece orchestra The Knights, and at MOMA for a sold out cabaret for the Kirchner Exhibit. You may have also seen her with her "glam bottom baring dance troupe the Assettes" (Village Voice), celebrating the Billboard Top Ten in the monthly series Our Hit Parade, or at the gothic Night Hotel co-hosting the weekly transnational lounge Foreign Affairs. This is your chance to have her all to yourself.

GAD ELMALEH: OH MY GAD

Thursday, February 11 at 9:30PM

Through June 2016

$25

While Gad Elmaleh is arguably the most widely known and beloved comedian in Europe, he has now embarked on the newest chapter of his career: breaking through to the American audience. For this, he has crafted, Oh My Gad, a new stand-up show entirely in English, building upon the jokes that made him famous overseas and including new observations from his life in America.

Elmaleh debuted his first all English show in a sold-out ten-night run at Joe's Pub in fall 2015, introducing his singular humor and insight to a new audience. During his current run, he will continue the enormous task of not just speaking a new language fluently, but of using it with the timing, nuance and syntax required for great stand-up comedy. Says The Guardian, "The chance to see Elmaleh spreading his wings in the U.S. is not one to be missed."

DANCENOW PRESENTS LMNO3'S B.A.N.G.S.: MADE IN AMERICA

Friday and Saturday, February 12 & 13 at 7:00PM

$15

DanceNOW presents B.A.N.G.S.: made in america - a kaleidoscopic pageant of status, attention, categorization and femininity. In its first evening-length work, comedic dance trio LMnO3 shape-shift in style and identity donning everything from velvet evening wear to rip-stop jumpsuits to snack-filled purses to sensible bathing suits. The dancers explore what they are-and aren't-qualified to do. Serious play and creative instincts rule as the trio obsesses over the ideas behind B.A.N.G.S., a mnemonic device frequently used by French-language learners to remember which adjectives go in front of a noun: Beauty, Age, Number, Goodness and Size. Utilizing hard rap, body percussion, headlamps, a game show and the power of female relationships, LMnO3 sets aside its own fear and doubt, beginning to repurpose how we can unapologetically wear our own B.A.N.G.S.

FEDERICO AUBELE

Sunday, February 14 at 7:00PM

$20

Back in the dim wooden floored room. Smoky amber light. Heavy red drapes cover the walls. The old mirror that's reflected your thousand faces throughout the years, captures your image once again, sitting on the sofa. The deep sound of the bass crawls slowly on the floor, passes between your feet. The soft notes of the guitar and vocals floating on top of it, like black velvet butterflies. Like Absinthe. Federico Aubele's music takes you to that room. And you don't want to leave. You want to dive into that narcotic sway and remain there. Aubele works alone, like a fisherman waiting for the tide, painstakingly, making sure every sound marries the other elements on the track. Aubele's haunting signature sound, with its precise beats, scattered bandoneon samples, nylon string guitar, dark atmospherics and male and female vocal contrast give space this time also to several cinematic tripped out tango infused instrumentals.

Named for Public Theater founder Joe Papp, Joe's Pub at The Public opened in 1998 and plays a vital role in The Public's mission of supporting young artists while providing established artists with an intimate space to perform and develop new work. Joe's Pub presents the best in live music and performance nightly, continuing its commitment to diversity, production values, community and artistic freedom. The organization also offers unique opportunities like New York Voices, an artist commissioning program that provides musicians the resources and tools needed to develop original theater works. Commissioned artists have included Ethan Lipton, Toshi Reagon, Bridget Everett, Allen Toussaint and more. In 2011, the Pub received a top-to-bottom renovation, leading to improved sightlines, expanded seating capacity and a new menu from acclaimed Chef Andrew Carmellini. With its intimate atmosphere and superior acoustics, Joe's Pub presents talent from all over the world as part of The Public's programming downtown at its Astor Place home, hosting approximately 800 shows and serving over 100,000 audience members annually.

The Public Theater, under the leadership of Oskar Eustis and Executive Director Patrick Willingham, is the only theater in New York that produces Shakespeare, the classics, musicals, contemporary and experimental pieces in equal measure. Celebrating his 10th anniversary season at The Public, Eustis has created new community-based initiatives designed to engage audiences like Public Lab, Public Studio, Public Forum, Public Works, and a remount of the Mobile Shakespeare Unit. The Public continues the work of its visionary founder, Joe Papp, by acting as an advocate for the theater as an essential cultural force, and leading and framing dialogue on some of the most important issues of our day. Creating theater for one of the largest and most diverse audience bases in New York City for nearly 60 years, today the Company engages audiences in a variety of venues-including its landmark downtown home at Astor Place, which houses five theaters and Joe's Pub; the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, home to free Shakespeare in the Park; and the Mobile Shakespeare Unit, which tours Shakespearean productions for underserved audiences throughout New York City's five boroughs. The Public's wide range of programming includes free Shakespeare in the Park, the bedrock of the Company's dedication to making theater accessible to all; Public Works, an expanding initiative that is designed to cultivate new connections and new models of engagement with artists, audiences and the community each year; and audience and artist development initiatives that range from Emerging Writers Group and to the Public Forum series. The Public is located on property owned by the City of New York and receives annual support from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs; and in October 2012 the landmark building downtown at Astor Place was revitalized to physically manifest the Company's core mission of sparking new dialogues and increasing accessibility for artists and audiences, by dramatically opening up the building to the street and community, and transforming the lobby into a public piazza for artists, students, and audiences. The Public is currently represented on Broadway by the Tony Award-winning Fun Home and Lin-Manuel Miranda's acclaimed American musical Hamilton. The Public has received 47 Tony Awards, 167 Obie Awards, 52 Drama Desk Awards, 48 Lortel Awards, 31 Outer Critics Circle Awards, 13 New York Drama Critics Awards, and four Pulitzer Prizes.
