German-born cabaret legend
Ute Lemper's performing career grows out of a passionate and enduring commitment to art, politics, and history, and out of a contentious and complicated relationship with her homeland and its past. Her panache, versatility, and sophisticated repertoire - including Berlin cabaret songs and the dark gems of
Bertolt Brecht and
Kurt Weill - have led her to international acclaim as a recording artist, and in the theatre, cabaret, and film worlds. Tonight's journey leads through the French song world from Ferre, Piaf to Prevert and Brel and continues to the backstreets of Berlin, where ancient ghosts with new faces write poetry and songs between yesterday and tomorrow.
-William Finn Presents:
Songs By Ridiculously Talented Composers & Lyricists You Don't Know But Probably Should
Monday, November 17 at 9:30 PM
William Finn returns to the Joe's Pub stage hosting a show with some of the new composers and lyricists that he is a fan of. Mr. Finn is award-winning American composer and lyricist of such great works as Elegies, Falsettos and most recently the score for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, $20.
-Julia Murney
Part of the Ghostlight Series
Monday, November 24 at 11:30 PM
Julia Murney and her band will present an evening of music, including songs from her debut solo album I’m Not Waiting, and other favorite theatre and pop songs. Her debut solo album, I'm Not Waiting, was released in May 2006 on the Sh-K-Boom Records label. The album's title song was written especially for her by
Andrew Lippa, with whom she has a strong artistic relationship. Murney also sings a jazz acoustic version of the song "I'm Not That Girl" from
Wicked. She can also be heard on the original cast albums of The Wild Party and A Class Act, and the Actors' Fund recording of Hair, $15
