Tony winners Laura Benanti (Gypsy) and Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) and singer-songwriter Scott Alan are among the stars set to perform at Broadway Sings Tori, a concert celebrating the music of eight time Grammy Award nominee, Tori Amos. The one-night concert will take place on Monday, April 20th at 7pm at (le) Poisson Rouge in New York City and will benefit RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network).
Tori Amos, RAINN's first spokesperson, has inspired a devoted and loyal fan base including some of Broadway's most talented. Laura Benanti, who is currently starring in the New York Spring Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall, was particularly impacted by Amos's work. "I would not have gotten through High School were it not for the music of Tori Amos," Benanti said.
"Her soaring vocals, her unique and deeply felt lyrics, and of course her astounding piano playing spoke to me on a deep and meaningful level, and they still do! I am thrilled to be singing her music to benefit this very important organization."
Singer-songwriter, Scott Alan, also drew inspiration from Tori's music and has channeled this into his own work. "I was entranced by Tori's music and the way you could separate her lyrics and make complete sense of her honesty," Alan said. "What so many may hear as a mash-up of poetic words, I hear as the honest depths of someone's truths. I fell madly in love with the beauty of Tori Amos and continue to be a lifelong fan. She's taught me that as a songwriter, honesty is the only way to write."
Also slated to perform are Lauren Molina (Sweeney Todd, Rock of Ages), Rachel Bay Jones (Pippin, Hair), Zak Resnick (Mamma Mia), Erin Davie (Side Show, Grey Gardens), Mandy Gonzales (In the Heights, Wicked), Rob Morrrison (Avenue Q, Nevermore), Natalie Joy Johnson (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde), Molly Pope (Found: A New Musical), Stephen Bienskie (Submissions Only), Erik Altemus (Pippin), Michael Buchanan (The Book of Mormon), Garth Kravits (The Drowsy Chaperone), and Colleen Harris (Alternatives).
The evening will be emceed by SiriusXM host Julie James with Musical Direction by Brian Nash (Silence! The Musical).
