Kyle Riabko is the star and creator of the hit West End show Close to You: Bacharach Reimagined and the earlier acclaimed Off-Broadway version What's It All About? With Bacharach Reimagined, Riabko brings his extraordinary Bacharach arrangements to Joe's Pub for a solo concert and album launch of the original London cast recording, now available on Ghostlight Records. Accompanying himself on guitar, Riabko will perform his celebrated versions of Bacharach's biggest hits and more. The stage production was named "One of the Year's 10 Best" by The New York Times and received nominations for Drama Desk Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards and Lucille Lortel Awards.

Justin VivIan Bond Shows Up Late for Love is a post-Valentine's Day check-in. How's everybody doing? In an attempt to practice radical empathy, Mx Bond is stepping out of their liberal champagne bubble and venturing on a cultural fact finding mission across America. Sticking with their credo, "Keep it Pretty, Keep, it Shallow, Keep it Moving," Mx Bond asks, "Why alienate when you can infiltrate?" Sierra Hull is the singer, mandolinist and former child prodigy, who signed with Rounder at 13 and was the first bluegrass musician to receive a Presidential Scholarship to Berklee College of Music. Her latest album Weighted Mind (January 29), produced by multi-Grammy Award-winning Béla Fleck, features 11 compelling new compositions written or co-written by Hull, and one traditional tune. While Hull's ethereal voice and fluid playing take center stage here, she receives support from bass marvel Ethan Jodziewicz. Fleck's banjo adorns the elegant "Queen of Hearts/Royal Tea," with Alison Krauss, Abigail Washburn and Rhiannon Giddens adding enchanting harmonies. Though best known for her work as a mandolin player, Hull reveals her abundant gifts as a composer and lyricist in these songs.

Songwriter/performer Shaina Taub presides at Joe's Pub with a monthly concert residency. The run will act as a creative laboratory for her and her band to test new songs and play selects from Old Hats and Visitors as well as special guests joining along the way. February 17's installment will feature Tony Award-winner Nikki James. Taub is a Jonathon Larson Grant winner and previous composer-in-residence at Ars Nova. She composed a musical adaptation of Twelfth Night as a part of Public Works and starred as the role of Feste. Taub's songs have been performed by Audra McDonald and Sutton Foster and she writes tunes for Sesame Street. Taub is a member of the 2017 Joe's Pub Working Group.

Joe's Pub at The Public and The Public Theater's Mobile Unit present Imani Uzuri's Love Story: Songs of Laughter, Loss and Resilience, a concert of the composer's original music, as part of the programs' collaborative series In Transit. Often seen on the Joe's Pub stage as a performer, Uzuri also composed the score for the latter program's fall 2016 production of William Shakespeare's Hamlet. Uzuri's show will tour, Monday-Friday, February 6-10, to community venues, and culminate with this performance.
Uzuri is a vocalist, composer and cultural worker who has been called "a post-modernist Bessie Smith" by The Village Voice. She composes music that celebrate her rural North Carolina roots where she grew up singing Spirituals and line-singing hymns with her grandmother and extended family. Time Out New York said she, "never fails to mesmerize audiences with her narcotic blend of...ethereal sounds."

BONOMO is a family of musicians on a mission to unify musical traditions - a band unique and familiar. Formed by singer/songwriter/keyboardist, Adam Bonomo, BONOMO's music has been described as "fresh and deliberate, a uniquely lyrical and engaging sound, pulling the listener towards their own inner dreams, desires, and reflections" and having "a haunting quality that brings the listener together with their lyrics, rhythms, and musicality."
Whether fulfilling the role of vocalist, emcee, showman, or impresario, Michael Mwenso conveys both the sophistication and spontaneity of hardcore jazz and the music's folkloric roots with impeccable craft, creativity, and communicative flair. Most frequently, Mwenso performs as leader of Michael Mwenso and The Shakes, a retinue comprising between three to five vocalists and a rotating ensemble. Mwenso has spent his entire life immersed in the jazz scene and has developed his unique skill set through the course of eventful life journeys.

The Meeting* hosted by Justin Sayre is the monthly gathering of the International Order of Sodomites, the centuries-old organization, which sets the mythic Gay Agenda. After seven years of audacious humor, trailblazing political discourse and button-pushing cultural exploration, the acclaimed comedy/variety show is in its eighth and final season. Winter/Spring 2017 will be dedicated to gay icons Michael Bennett (February 19), The Velvet Underground (March 19) and Patti LuPone (April 23). The final celebration will be two performances on Sunday, May 14. Tracy Stark serves as the show's music director. Special guests to be announced.

Drawing on old school soul, blues, folk, and work songs, and incorporating a sprinkling of her own compositions, Sims interprets them through her lens as a queer woman of color and unequivocally proves that her artistry and experiences are deeply entwined. Three Masters, featured regularly at Maui's renowned "Slack Key Show" share Hawai'i's unique guitar styles, with origins in paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) culture. Four-time Grammy Award-winner, master slack key guitarist George Kahumoku Jr. has been called a "wonderful composer, songwriter, vocalist, and storyteller" by George Winston. Talented award-winning multi-instrumentalist Nathan Aweau, is renowned for his 8-string electric bass and velvet vocals. The New York Times stated that Aweau "[has an] advanced understanding of harmony and orchestration...his singing style is effortless." Guitarist and singer Kawika Kahiapo is an award-winner for slack key and island music and a regular at Jack Johnson's Kokua Fests.

This season, Ethan Lipton (No Place to Go, Tumacho) returns to The Public with a new adventure in bittersweet and hilariously off-kilter storytelling. With music composed and performed by Lipton, Vito Dieterle, Eben Levy and Ian Riggs, THE OUTER SPACE follows two humans who buy an old spaceship, leaving the noise, pollution and overpriced rents of Earth for the vast beauty and treacherous terrain of the final frontier. But can they survive the mission? Leigh Silverman (No Place to Go, Well, Violet) directs this out-of-this-world musical about the impossible quest to create a sustainable life. The New York Times calls Obie Award-winning playwright and songwriter Lipton an "expert at keeping music, jokes and narrative tightly knitted together into one consistent human package."

Hosted by Lynne Marie Rosenberg (High Maintenance), this installment of CastandLoose Live! will feature Pun Bandhu (Plenty), Joel Marsh Garland (Orange Is The New Black), Tom Phelan (The Fosters, Hir), Cara Reedy (Infamously Short), Aneesh Sheth (Southern Comfort), Maysoon Zayid (Most Watched TED Talk of 2014). The evening will also include the stylings of musical theater team Gordon Leary and Julia Menwald, and direction by Jenn Haltman.

A strident songstress whose intensity is cloaked in mellifluous vocals, Emel Mathlouthi is also known for her role as a leading artist in the Arab Spring. Born in Tunis, she was shunned from her country's official airwaves but rose to prominence through social media. She released her first album, Kelmti Horra (My Word is Free) in 2012, garnering lavish praise from critics and fans for her powerful vocals laid over a unique mix of North African rhythms and modern electronic beats. In 2015, Mathlouthi completed work on her second album with producer Valgeir Sigurðsson and performed solo at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony. Called one of the top 15 acts of 2015 by PopMatters, Mathlouthi is an artist with a powerful message and a voice beyond comparison. Partisan Records will release her new album in early 2017.

Kenny Endo is perhaps one of the most respected taiko drummers in the world, an innovator and a pioneer of his field and a longtime collaborator.
