Kritzerland Upstairs at Sterling's presents The Randy Newman Album on Sunday, June 3, 2012 - 7:00 pm. The show stars (in alphabetical order) Melody Hollis (Broadway: Susan, Irving Berlin's White Christmas; Annie, MusThWest), Dennis Kyle (Reprise's They're Playing Our Song; Rooster in Annie, Theater Aspen), Gia Mora (Three-time Helen Hayes Nominee; Sunset Boulevard, Signature Theatre), Leigh Ann Larkin (Broadway: Gypsy, Dainty June; A Little Night Music, Petra) and Stephen Van Dorn (Gerard, Lovelace: A Rock Opera; Rutledge, 1776, Actors Co-op), with music director Tom Griep and special guest and world-class guitarist and composer Grant Geissman.
K ritzerland's twenty-second show is base d on an album that was supposed to happen but never did: "The Randy Newman Album." It was meant to be a follow-up to the Bruce Kimmel-produced "The Burt Bacharach Album" - charts were done, but for reasons you'll find out about, it was scotched.
Randy Newman's songs are legendary, iconic, and unique, whether from his pop albums ("I Think it's Going to Rain Today," "Political Science," "Short People," "I Love LA") or his film scores to such classics as the Toy Story films, The Princess and the Frog, Ragtime, Cars, James and the Giant Peach, and many, many others.
Special guest is guitarist Grant Geissman (composer of the TV series, Two and a Half Men and Mike and Molly).
