Kathy Sledge is the lead singer of famous sister group "Sister Sledge" whom held numerous number one hits and Grammy nominations is performing her show BRIGHTER SIDE OF DAY live at the Metropolitan Room for one night only on September 6 and 9:30pm.

Between the two legendary bastions of great jazz, the Blue Note on West 3rd street, and Birdland on 44th street, music, usually associated with with those two clubs was heard on 22nd street at the Metropolitan Room last night. With swinging and elegant singing, Kathy Sledge brought the music of Billy Holiday to the standing room only crowd that packed operating partner Bernie Furshpan's Cabaret stage. With a band that seemed to stretch the entire length of the room, a group of musicians called "Somebody Tell Joe & The Chops" turned on an engine of sound akin to hearing Count Basie at the Sands in Las Vegas. As the leader shouted out the tempo cue, 1-2-3-4, the horns raised and John Coltrane's "Giant Steps" and Gillespie and Paparelli's "Night In Tunisia" lifted the musically elite audience out of their seats.

Then Kathy Sledge took stage to sing the title song of her show, "Brighter Side Of Day". She kept a room full of adoring fans enthralled with those great Billy Holiday tunes, "God Bless The Child", Good Morning Heartache", "Almost Like Being In Love", and others in the great Holiday repertoire. Kathy Sledge has the voice and musicality which made this evening a special event. "The Chops" which consisted of Mike Kwas, Philip Lightfoot, Derrick Graves, Joe Johnson, Dave Watson, Darryl Dixon, James Cage, and Danny Hall, created a wall of sound that was able to be enjoyed by some folks out on 22nd street that couldn't get in.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Kathy Sledge is the youngest of five girls whom at the age of 6 she was singing songs with her sisters in perfect harmony. Who would of guessed that only 10 years later she would record a song that would literally touch the hearts of millions around the world. With rising popularity in Philadelphia, word around town was that the "Sledge Sisters" were the 'act to see.' The smash hit "We Are Family" went on to reach No 1 position on every imaginable chart all over the universe and also earned a Grammy nomination.

Kathy went on to then have a very successful solo career and will be coming to the Metropolitan Room to present her show which is a musical journey of the life of the American icon BIllie Holiday. Kathy celebrates Billie's masterpieces, creativity and vivacity, through the channeling of her songs, which are as well known today as they were decades ago. Travel back with Ms. Sledge as she delivers a reincarnation of Lady Day's poignant voice: A style still considered to be one of the greatest jazz voices of all time.

The Brighter Side of Day premiered at Relish in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is being positioned to move towards Broadway, starting with a breathtaking revival at the Lincoln Theater in our Nations Capital, Washington, DC. This production is worth seeing as the impressionable Kathy Sledge illuminates while bringing the brighter side of Lady Day to life.

The Metropolitan Room is considered "Best Cabaret Spot in NYC" by Zagat. - "This Flatiron "class act" aims to revive the "golden age of cabaret" as "up-and-coming stars" and "renowned performers" alike take the stage in an "intimate" room with "great acoustics"; run with "professionalism" by a "gracious staff", it's "worth every penny" for a "sophisticated" night out.". - ZAGAT 2014

Do not miss out on one night of pure Billie Holiday bliss performed by an 80's legend.
