Barb Jungr and Marilyn Maye return to New York's Metropolitan Room to reprise two of the most well-received shows in recent memory - Jungr's "I Got Life" and Maye's "Love on the Rocks." Both ladies have been appearing in overlapping sold-out engagements during the last two weeks, with Maye wrapping up her stint tonight, and Jungr on Saturday. Demand for seats has been so brisk the Metropolitan Room has been selling out on a nightly basis.
British sensation Barb Jungr's iconoclastic tribute to Nina Simone, "I Got Life," comes back for one-night only on Monday November 3 at 7pm. Over its eight-show run that began on September 4, the show has earned the 2008 Nightlife Award-winner through-the-roof notices, with The NY Times calling her "mesmerizing."
"Love on the Rocks" is the legendary Marilyn Maye's fifth new show at the Metropolitan Room in less than two years. Her back-by-popular-demand reprise of "Love on the Rocks" performs Thursday October 30 at 10pm, Saturday November 1 at 7:30pm, and Sunday November 2 at 9:30pm. A veritable Molotov cocktail of passion, sex and romance, 0A"Love on the Rocks" takes an unblinking look at all the ways we find and lose the objects of our desire. In the hands of this cocktail courtesan radiating the worldly nonchalance of the quintessential lounge singer, this act is being heralded as Maye's best ever by countless fans.
Maye and Jungr are both being featured in this year's Mabel Mercer Foundation's Cabaret Convention at Lincoln Center. The 19th annual edition runs from October 29 to November 1.
The Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, New York's most talked-about intimate concert venue, celebrated its second anniversary in May 2008. There is a two-drink minimum per person for all shows. For reservations call 212/206-0440. For information visit www.metropolitanroom.com.
