LANDON PIGG

Friday, March 19 at MIDNIGHT

Indie pop/rocker Landon Pigg received his informal musical education via his father's record collection. His first CD ever owned was by popular novelty artist Ray Stevens. Born in Nashville on August 6, 1983, Pigg was the son of a studio musician father and a mother who was fond of poetry. Soon, Pigg started to delve deeper into music, discovering the artists who eventually inspired his own music. He credits David Mead and Rufus Wainwright for instilling in him an appreciation for a beautiful melody, Radiohead for encouraging him to expel his emotions into his songwriting; and rock music icons the Beatles and Led Zeppelin for exhibiting to him the importance of catchy licks and hooks. Says Pigg: "Maybe there is a naïveté in my approach. I never had a guitar lesson when I started out. I've always felt that when you don't learn all the rules you're much more inclined to break them with a smile." For his self-titled debut, released in 2006, Pigg was guided by producers Dan Brodbeck, Paul Ebersold, and Clif Magness, who worked with such popular artists as 3 Doors Down and Avril Lavigne. In 2008, Pigg delivered the EP Coffee Shop. The sophomore full-length Boy Who Never followed in 2009. - All Music Guide $15

DESMON & FEICHTNER CONTINUE TO DISAPPOINT THEIR PARENTS

Monday, March 22 at 9:30 PM

Meet Jeremy and Vadim. They're neither doctors nor MBA's. But they are pretty good songwriters. Award-winning, actually. So, if you wouldn't mind, please tell you-know-who to lay off them this Thanksgiving.

Join us on March 22nd for a raucous evening of New York's finest performers slumming to The Desmon/Feichtner Songbook.

Currently scheduled to perform are Broadway's Jesse Tyler Ferguson (TV's Modern Family, ...Spelling Bee), Leslie Kritzer (A Catered Affair, Legally Blonde), Sebastian Arcelus (Jersey Boys, Wicked), Nick Blaemire (Cry-Baby) and James Monroe Iglehart (Memphis, ...Spelling Bee). They'll be backed by downtown's swarthiest house band, The Red-Hot Latinos (Danny Stone, Joe Brent, Jay Mack and Matt Hinkley). The evening is produced by Noah Cornman and Sh-k-boom Records.

Jeremy Desmon and Vadim Feichtner have been referred to as "the Rodgers and Hart for the new millennium." But maybe that's because one of them is a misogynist and the other is an unrepentant drunk. $20 in advance, $25 at the door

RENAUD GARCIA - FONS

Tuesday, March 23 at 7:00 PM

"It is music of genius, but also music that bubbles out of a soul consumed by the fervor at the center of its very being. Track after track leaves you breathless, each with a lyrical beauty or a feverish energy all its own." - AllAboutJazz.com

From the moment he held a double bass in his hands for the first time at age sixteen in Paris, the future of the instrument was destined to be changed. In a lightning bolt of insight, Renaud Garcia-Fons saw possibilities in this instrument to explore all the musics that interested him - classical, jazz, Persian, Indian, Mediterranean, South American, forms from the world over. Driven by new ideas and the talent to translate them into compositions, he had to reinvent the way it could be played. The result is an utterly new sound - an amalgam of double bass, cello, violin, guitar, lute, oud, and more - that exceeds any conventional idea of playing the double bass. He often has the lead melody, a possibility enabled by the addition of a fifth string and his incomparable con arco technique.

The repertoire for his Arcoluz trio, with Flamenco guitarist Kiko Ruiz and percussionist Pascal Rollando, takes much of its inspiration from Flamenco. This is the French trio's New York debut. $20

THE WET SPOTS

Tuesday, March 23 at 9:30 PM

Picture a husband and wife team from the golden age of comedy. Now picture them singing sweetly about threesomes and taking it in the ass. Internationally-acclaimed cabaret duo The Wet Spots (Cass King and John Woods) write the most elegant songs about sex that you will ever hear. The pair presents an image that is vaudevillian, oversexed, and weirdly Canadian: think sex club by way of Monty Python.

Using a lively blend of original songs, audience interaction, spankings, and singalongs, The Wet Spots draw their fans into a world where the libido is celebrated and satirized. Not for the faint of heart or prudish, you'll be humming these bawdy tunes for days. The Wet Spots have been presented at the Sydney Opera House, Toronto's Massey Hall, London's Café de Paris, and will debut in Las Vegas this April. They are presently creating "SHINE - A Burlesque Musical" that will premiere later this year. $20 in advance / $25 at the door
