Jim Caruso's Cast Party is proud to present Ron Abel, one of New York's hottest theatrical composer/arrangers, in a return engagement to the Broadway at Birdland series. This very special concert will take place on Monday, July 29 at 7pm. Joining Ron will be some of his fabulously talented friends (Lucie Arnaz and Valarie Pettiford) for a fun "raising the roof" evening of entertainment. Abel is hosting this gala for longtime close friend, Richard Aborn, who is running for the office of District Attorney for Manhattan. (Richard is a leading advocate for the gun control movement, police brutality, and many other important issues.)
Ron has written, produced, arranged, orchestrated and/or conducted for vocalists from pop diva Taylor Dayne to opera diva and Kennedy Center Honoree Jessye Norman. His recent sold out shows of his original songs at the world famous jazz club Birdland in New York City had the NEW YORK POST'S columnist Liz Smith writing, "Go! Then you can say you knew him when! This season, The Actor's Fund of America held a sold out star-studded tribute of Ron's music in the historic Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles. He recently produced and arranged new albums for Deborah Gibson (Colored Lights: The Broadway Album) and Valarie Pettiford (Hear My Soul). Arranging, producing, and song writing by Ron can also be heard on Petula Clark, Lucie Arnaz, Helen Reddy and Dorian Harewood's albums among many others. Currently Ron is composing the musical score for Broadway's newest musical Bricktop, for producers Paul Lambert, Jonas Neilson and Whoopi Goldberg. Bricktop will prove to be an historic show in that it will have both classic songs from The Great American Songbook, as well as Ron's original music with lyrics by his partner, lyricist Chuck Steffan.
