Tonight, December 8th the Hangar's CabarETC series continues with a special one-day-only cabaret performance of Back Home for the Holidays featuring Jeremy Webb (The Glorious Ones and Hangar's The 39 Steps) and Nat Chandler (Spamalot, Kiss Me Kate, and Phantom of the Opera) with special guest Joseph Thalken. After last year's smash-hit, Jeremy and Nat return to the Hangar stage to help you get into the holiday spirit. This fun and festive show is inspired by their Broadway experience, warm holiday memories, and being with those we love. Refreshments - including beer and wine - are now available in the lobby.
CabarETC tickets range from $18 to $20. Jeremy Webb is thrilled to return home to Ithaca and the Hangar Theatre where his Mainstage credits include Hannay in Wendy Dann's 2010 production of Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps (SALT Nomination), As Bees In Honey Drown, Kiss Me, Kate &Gypsy; Inook and the Sun (Kidstuff), Leonardos Last Supper (Lab Company) The Next Generation School of Theatre and last season's Home For The Holidays with Nat Chandler. In New York his credits include Kander and Ebb's The Visit with Chita Rivera and John Cullum (Broadway, The Actors Fund, and Signature Theatre), The Glorious Ones (Lincoln Center Theater, Original Cast Recording), The Baltimore Waltz (Signature Theatre), Tabletop (Working Theater), Photograph 51 (The Ensemble Studio Theatre), BFF, and Reading Under The Influence. Mr. Webb received the Drama Desk Award for Tabletop, the Connecticut Critics Circle Award for The Laramie Project, and was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for The Visit. His film and television credits include Love Walked In, "Law & Order," "Law & Order: SVU," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," and over 200 episodes on "The Guiding Light." Commercial gigs include Heineken, Dunkin' Donuts, aol, Nokia and many others. Mr. Webb received his training at The Drama School, The University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
Nat Chandler is thrilled to return to Ithaca for the Hangar's Cabaret series! New York Times theatre critic D.J.R. Bruckner wrote, "Nat Chandler is a find...he displays rich comic gifts and he can use his fine operatic voice to express any emotion he wants to." Well-known to theatre and concert audiences around the country, on Broadway, Nat was seen in the title role of Sir Percival Blakeney in the Tony nominated musical, The Scarlet Pimpernel. He was last seen on Broadway in the Stephen Sondheim tribute, Children and Art, and appeared in the City Center Encores! production of The Ziegfeld Follies of 1936 (Sony Records). Off Broadway, Mr. Chandler played the role of Roy Darwin in the Obie Award winning Counsellor at Law (Outer Critics and Lucille Lortel Award nominations) and created the role of Tony Toscanini in Tales of Tinseltown.
Most recently, Nat played the role of Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha. He played the role of Katzmann in Anton Coppola's American opera Sacco and Vanzetti and Shaunard in La Boheme for Tampa Opera and toured nationally as Lancelot in Camelot starring Robert Goulet. Mr. Chandler starred as Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera directed by Harold Prince and toured with Sarah Brightman in The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Other National Tours include Sondheim's Into the Woods, and Nat's first professional job in musical theatre, Lun Tha in The King and I starring Yul Brynner. Mr. Chandler has played leading roles in a broad spectrum of American musicals and operetta across the country, including Kiss Me Kate, Beauty and the Beast, A Little Night Music, Spamalot, Carousel with Shirley Jones, Secret Garden, Man of La Mancha, South Pacific with Howard Keel, Oklahoma!, Cinderella, Cabaret, The Most Happy Fella, Show Boat, Candide, Trouble in Tahiti, Desert Song, The Merry Widow, andKismet in such famous theatres as Boston's Huntington, Colonial, and Wang Center, St. Louis MUNY, The Fox (Atlanta, Detroit and St. Louis), New Orleans' Saenger Theatre, Sacramento CLO, Pittsburgh's Heinz Hall, Dallas' Meyerson Symphony Hall, Miami's The Jackie Gleason, The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Chicago's Auditorium Theatre, Philadelphia's Forrest, Maine State Music Theatre, Fulton Theatre and The Goodspeed Opera House.
Nat received a Kevin Kline nomination for his portrayal of Miles Gloriosus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and two Barrymore Award nominations for Best Actor in a Musical for his performances as the Phantom in the Kopit/Yestin Phantom! and Lancelot in Camelot at Philadelphia's Walnut Street Theatre.
As a concert performer, South Carolina native Nat Chandler has appeared as soloist with such renowned American symphonies as The National at Wolftrap, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Colorado Springs, Naples, Reno, Tucson, Louisiana, Kansas City, Utah, Arizona, Oregon Symphony and Mr. Chandler originated the role of Dean Martin in the Symphonic Rat Pack In Concert. Joseph Thalken is an award-winning composer whose work includes the musicals Harold and Maude (book and lyrics by Tom Jones), Was (book and lyrics by Barry Kleinbort), And the Curtain Rises (book by Michael Slade, lyrics by Mark Campbell), and Borrowed Dust (book and lyrics by Martin Moran) which recently premiered in New York as part of the "Inner Voices" series for Premieres. The Shen Family Foundation included Mr. Thalken in their Musical Theater Composers Initiative, a select group, including the legendary Stephen Sondheim that has received grants and commissions to create new works and expand the musical theater art form. He has also received support from the Gilbert & Gonzalez-Falla Theater Foundation, Meet the Composer, and the National Endowment for the Arts. On Broadway, Mr. Thalken served as conductor for Victor/Victoria with Julie Andrews and Liza Minnelli, and for Gypsy with Patti LuPone. As a pianist or conductor, he has worked with Bernadette Peters, Barry Manilow, Polly Bergen, Rebecca Luker, Kristin Chenoweth, opera stars Catherine Malfitano and Elizabeth Futral, and acclaimed violinist Joshua Bell, among others. He has provided orchestrations for the albums of Howard McGillin, Kathy Lee Gifford, Marin Mazzie, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn and Judy Collins. At the newly opened 54 Below, he served as music director and arranger for Patti LuPone, Rebecca Luker, Marin Mazzie and Howard McGillin. And he can be heard as a pianist on various cast albums, including My Favorite Year, Babes in Arms, Tip-Toes, Ziegfeld Follies of 1936, Bernstein's New York, Call Me Madam, St. Louis Woman and Oh, Kay!.
