Jeff Macauley Reprises  SONGBOOKS OF NORMAN GIMBEL At 53 Above Image

Songwriter Norman Gimbel wrote the lyrics to pop classics such as "The Girl From Ipanema," "Sway," and "Killing Me Softly With His Song," as well as the TV theme songs for Wonder Woman and Happy Days, and won an Oscar for the song "It Goes Like It Goes" from the film Norma Rae.

Academy Award-winning Composer Michel Legrand wrote the scores for classic films like The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Summer of '42, and the music for the Oscar-winning song "The Windmills Of Your Mind," from The Thomas Crown Affair. Gimbel and Legrand also collaborated on the songs "Watch What Happens" and "I Will Wait For You," with Gimbel writing the English lyrics to Legrand's original melodies.

Those legendary songwriters have two other things in common. They recently died just a month apart (Gimbel at 91 and Legrand at 86) and their songbooks have been celebrated in cabaret shows by 2019 MAC Award-nominee for "Best Male Vocalist" JEFF MACAULEY, who was also nominated in 2018 for BroadwayWorld.com Cabaret Awards for "Best Vocalist" and "Best Show" for Where Did The Gentleman Go?-The Songs of Bobby Troup and The Life of Scotty Bowers.

Macauley, who was nominated by MAC as "Best Male Vocalist" for a fourth straight year, has been asked to reprise his critically acclaimed Gimbel and Legrand shows in the "Featured Artist Series" at 53 Above at the Broadway Comedy Club (318 W. 53rd St, Ground Floor). With his Musical Director/Arranger Tex Arnold on piano and Jon Burr on bass, Jeff will perform It Was Me: The Lyrics of Norman Gimbel on Wednesday, March 20 at 7 pm and present Le Grand Tour: The Music of Michel Legrand on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 pm. Cover charge for both shows is $20 with a 2-drink minimum.
