SARAH SOLOVAY
Friday, January 28 at 7:00 PM; $15
Sometimes all you need is an acoustic guitar and a dream. Sarah Solovay's got both---and she happens to have a rather transcendent voice to boot. While 16 years old and still in high school, the New York City singer-songwriter strikes just the right note between organic catchy rock and vibrant pop with each and every song that she pens. That's precisely why Sarah's music has already reached massive audiences via hit shows and such as 90210 and why she was chosen by fans to open on a stop of John Mayer's "Battle Studies Tour."
Her uniquely warm, passionate voice and authentic style of music has captured the attention of listeners worldwide. "Hearts Collide" was featured in a March 2010 episode of The CW's 90210, with Sarah as the 90210 featured artist, as well as being placed on the 90210 Soundtrack. "Gone" was selected for the 2010 Songwriter's Hall of Fame New Writer's CD and selected for use in NBC and TNT TV Shows. "Flaws and All" was written specifically for the MySpace TV Show, but then found its way into The Hole by acclaimed director Joe Dante (Gremlins). Conde Nast selected Sarah's song "All She Could Be" for creative use and Sarah's live acoustic performance was featured on NYC's WRXP 101.9.

"I've discovered Sarah Solovay, an ordinary New York high school student with extraordinary talent." Blogcritics.com
"Lately, I have been introduced to a lot of new/independent artists. A lot of them have amazing music. But there is this singer/songwriter whose music I can't seem to get out of my head. Her name is Sarah Solovay and she is from New York City." Superficialworlds.com
"Listening to her energetic and addictive melodies, Hit Song Science isn't the only one predicting sweeping success for young singer/songwriter Sarah Solovay." uPlaya.com
"Her intrinsic melodies meshed with snappy lyrics were made to sing along to and believe me, sing along you will. The all too understandable message of "Gone" will stick with any person who has a soul, while the addictive "All She Could Be" will have you coming back to this sophisticated young song bird's music page day after day after day." Collegeblender.com
"Now at first I thought she just sounded good because it wasn't one of those awful uninspired Techno groups or maybe because she wasn't wearing war paint and was actually playing real music, but then after listening to all her songs, I realized something. This girl was good, not just hot for a moment good, but the kind of good music that stays with you and makes you want, no, long to hear what they put out next." NecessaryCool.com
COLE ESCOLA
Friday & Saturday, January 28 & 29 at 11:30 PM; $15
Cole Escola, acclaimed for his inspired musical performances in Joe's Pub's recurring smash Our Hit Parade and Casserole Live, the live performance component of his hit television series, Jeffery & Cole Casserole, makes his eagerly anticipated solo debut. With Cole's broad showmanship and sweetheart charm, his act will hearken back to a time when the great ladies of stage and screen dazzled the crowds in smoky rooms all over town. An exciting bill of standards, showtunes, Motown and original material brought to life by Cole's decidedly fresh perspective and raw energy under the direction of Ben Rimalower (Leslie Kritzer is Patti LuPone at Les Mouches) and featuring a band led by Bistro Award winner Ray Fellman.
HUUN HUUR TU
Saturday, January 29 at 7:00 PM; $25
Huun-Huur-Tu come from the former Soviet Autonomous Republic of Tuva, a sparsely settled region of grasslands, boreal forests, and mountain ridges that lies 2,500 miles east of Moscow Russia, situated at the center of Asia, north of Mongolia. This indigenous music highlights rare instruments and preserves what is arguably some of the world's oldest form of music making. The best known genre of Tuvan music, xöömei (throat-singing), comprises what one might call a lexicon of musical onomatopoeia in which natural sounds are mimetically transformed into musical representations. Their past collaborations range from Ry Cooder to The Kronos Quartet. The current album "Eternal" is a collaboration with electronic musician & record producer Carmen Rizzo (Niyaz, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Oakenfold, Seal) to form a unique blend of ambient electronic and sonic textures compared to a Brian Eno style album. The album takes you through a lush cinematic journey of almost dream like sequences of deep happiness. Forty minutes of a thrilling ride from start to finish.

The Villa Gillet & Happy Ending Presents
A NIGHT OF PERSONA, as part of the WALLS + BRIDGES FESTIVAL feat CECILE HUILBERT, Sarah Jones & Cynthia Hopkins
Monday, January 31 at 9:00 PM; $20
What happens when an artist "goes public", when a performer steps on stage? What is the transformation, the transmutation of the identity, from the person to the persona? The Happy Ending Music and Reading Series presents a special evening dedicated to the art, theory and practical application of persona. Through interwoven talks and performances, three dynamic guests - essayist
Cécile Guilbert, singer and musician Cynthia Hopkins, multicharacter performer Sarah Jones - will investigate how artists strive to cultivate and expose the most elusive and intangible aspects of their public personas.
Cécile Guilbert writes essays, novels and literary critic. Written with a great liberty of tone, her highly personal and polymorphous work surveys the heritage of noted artists and writers. In Sans entraves et sans temps morts (2009), she shares her views on writing in a collection of brilliantly bold, literary ambitious essays. She was awarded the prix Médicis for her essay Warhol spirit (Grasset, 2008).
Cynthia Hopkins is a writer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and theater artist. She creates and performs unique multi-media performance pieces which intertwine truth and fiction and have won her a host of awards, including the 2007 Alpert Award in Theater and a 2010 Guggenheim Fellowship. Her work has been presented internationally, most recently at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco; Soho Rep and St. Ann's Warehouse in New York; Les Subsistances in Lyon, France; and the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. Through the process of making performances, she attempts to alchemize disturbance into works of intrigue and hope which simultaneously stimulate the senses, provoke emotion, and enliven the mind. She has also produced eight albums with her band, Gloria Deluxe. She is currently at work on This Clement World, a new piece addressing the climate crisis.
Sarah Jones is a Tony Award® winning playwright and performer. Her multi-character, one-person show Bridge & Tunnel was originally produced by Meryl Streep and became a critically acclaimed hit on Broadway. Sarah is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, performing internationally as a Spokesperson on Violence Against Children. Fans of her work range from First Lady Michelle Obama, who invited Sarah to perform at The White House in celebration of Women's History Month, to the Sesame Street audience that knows Sarah as Ms. Noodle from Elmo's World.
