Cabaret performer and producer Jamie deRoy will present a special evening with Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers on Friday, June 26th (7PM) at the New York hotspot Metropolitan Room (34 West 22nd Street Between 5th & 6th Avenues). Steve Smith will accompany on guitar and Marty Fischer on drums. For the first time in 17 years, the Gatlin Brothers have been back in the studio recording new music. The evening will feature some of their new songs from their upcoming album, titled "The Pilgrimage" releasing Fall 2009 on Curb Records.
Legendary Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter, Larry Gatlin, began his successful music career thanks in part to his meeting Dottie West while performing at Jimmy Dean's Las Vegas revue. Taken by his impressive song writing skills, West recorded two of his songs and passed his demo around Nashville, which soon got him a job singing back up for Kris Kristofferson. In 1973 he began his solo career and had his first Top 20 hit, "Sweet Becky Walker," one year later. In 1976 his brothers, Steve and Rudy, joined Larry and they went on to record the Grammy Award winning "Broken Lady," "I Don't Wanna Cry," "Love Is Just a Game," and "Statues Without Hearts," among others.
Renowned for their mastery and art of perfect family harmony that spawned some of country music's most memorable hits, Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers rekindled their ole' gospel music flame with the 2005 release of "Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers Sing Their Family Gospel Favorites," and in so doing, lit the way towards their 9th Grammy nomination. Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers are still performing live across the US. Visit www.gatlinbrothers.com for more information.
