On Monday, October 27th at 9:30PM, JULIA MATTISON IS RUBY MANGER will play 54 Below. Written and Created by Julia Mattison, with songs written by Julia Mattison and Noel Carey, the evening is directed by Max Friedman with musical direction and arrangements by Charlie Rosen. Produced by Stage 17.
After a hugely successful sold out debut,
Julia Mattison returns as her character Ruby Manger, a fictional Broadway and film diva, famous for such roles as Trudy The Blind Ghost in I See You, Not Really, But You Know What I Mean (Tony Award winner), and Roberta in Inside Roberta (Academy Award nominee). In one hilarious hour, Ruby will re-visit her greatest career highlights and lowlights, from winning her first Tony, to her not-so-secret love affairs, to doing quaaludes in a basement with
Rod Stewart that one time. Billed as her farewell engagement, the show promises an incredible evening of stories, songs, and some very special guests.
The concert, conceived and written by Mattison and directed by
Max Friedman, will feature original music by Mattison and
Noel Carey, with orchestrations by
Charlie Rosen. Special guests include
Andrew Kober as Jean Dijon,
Noel Carey as
Randy Newman,
Taylor Trensch as Alan Quiche Lorraine,
Jeremy Morse as The Telegram Boy, as well as a handful of surprise guests.
Julia Mattison made her Broadway debut in the 2011 revival of Godspell, and since then has carved a place in the New York scene as an actor, singer, writer, and comedian. She can usually be found at 54 Below, either singing the work of people she admires, or looking to see if anyone has any leftover risotto. Outside of New York, Mattison has performed with the
American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and the
Royal National Theatre in London.
As a comedian, Mattison has earned awards for her work in sketch and standup comedy, and was featured in EW, The AV Club, NY Mag, and more for her spoof creation, Human Centipede: The Musical. Recently, she has been featured on the MTV's Hey Girl! directed by
Michael Showalter, in the Fox comedy Us & Them, in Jake & Amir for College Humor, and on
Jimmy Kimmel Live! She can currently be seen on television loving some Yoplait Greek yogurt . Most re-cently, Mattison and her friend/writing partner Sydney Nikols sold their televi-sion pilot, "How To Live Like A Lady" to MTV and are currently in development. Mattison is represented by Soffer/Namoff Entertainment. For more, go to
