NANSI BRANDES began playing the piano at age 4. In 1963 he was one of the founders of Ro?u ?i Negru ("Red and Black"), where he was a keyboardist. Brandes moved to Iasi, where he studied at the conservatory and the band moved with him. In 1969 the band participated in a festival held in Bucharest and won a high position in several categories. In addition, the band performed throughout Romania was played on the radio and photographed for television. Until his arrival in Israel, the band also managed to produce one mini-album and two singles. In 1974, Brandes immigrated to Israel and settled in Tel Aviv. He began his musical career in Israel as a piano accompanist for singers such as Riki Gal, Avi Toledano, Ilanit, Zvika Pick and others. Brandes served as the assistant and right-hand man of Yitzhak Graziani at the time, who at that time was the conductor and musical director of the Carmon band. There he met one of the dancers, who later became choreographer Shlomo Maman. Since 1980 Brandes has performed many musical arrangements for stage and folk dance works for Maman, and was a partner in producing his own records.
In 1980 he produced Avi Toledano's album Tzal'e. Brandes' collaboration with Toledano continued and in 1982 he adapted his song "Hora," with which he won the Eurovision Song Contest and reached second place in the Eurovision Song Contest and Toledano's "Abba Abba". In the same year, Brandes adapted Zohar Argov's poem "The Flower in My Garden," written by Avihu Medina. The song won the first place in the Eastern Song Festival by a considerable margin, paving Argov's way to the top of Mizrahi music. In the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest, Brandes also adapted the song that represented Israel, "Chai," performed by Ofra Haza. This song also came in second place in the competition.
At the same time, Brandes began working as a musical arranger and producer and worked with Zohar Argov on three albums. In 1984 he produced Yehoram Gaon's album Midway. Between 1985 and 1995 he was the conductor of the Israel Air Force Orchestra. In 1989, Brandes arranged for the third time the song that represented Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest, this time the "King's Way" performed by Gili and Galit. In 1989 he wrote the soundtrack of "Kissing the MPCID." He produced albums for Uri Feinman, Boaz Sharab and Gil Argov. Brandes also composed a number of songs, including "Belly Dance Players," with which Doron Mazar competed in the pre-Eurovision Song Contest in 1986 and "Another Place" by Uri Fineman.
In the early 1990s, he began his career writing plays and stand-up shows. In 1992 he played a pianist in Ze'ev Revach's film A Little Bit of Luck.
