The Carlyle announces the Café Carlyle's winter 2018 season, which features the return of audience favorites Isaac Mizrahi, John Lloyd Young, and Suzanne Vega.
Isaac Mizrahi returns to Café Carlyle with an all-new show, Isaac Mizrahi: Queen Size, February 5 - 16. His previous two residencies in the room were sellouts, receiving widespread critical acclaim. Mizrahi will perform classics by Leonard Bernstein, Cat Stevens, Jimmy Webb, John Kander, Cole Porter, James Taylor and Jerome Kern. Once again, he'll be joined by his band of (handsome, thin, single) (maybe not single) jazz musicians, led by Ben Waltzer. Mizrahi will tell all-new hilarious stories and share life observations. Additionally, he'll have a fresh new stock of swag items to re-gift to audience members. No topics will be off-limits: politics, sex, prescription drugs, millennials. In a review of his Café debut, The New York Times noted "he is determined to challenge the cultural status quo and help blaze a path into a more liberated... his Café Carlyle engagement is a big deal." Vogue called his previous Café residency, "the hottest ticket at New York Fashion Week."
Tony-Award winner John Lloyd Young returns to Café Carlyle with an all-new show, February 19 - March 2. At this residency, he'll perform an expertly curated set of rock and pop classics and originals that cut deep. From the raw emotionality of Roy Orbison to the retro cool of 007, Young will bring the iconic room alive with a timelessness, mystery and warmth that hearkens back while heralding into the future. Stephen Holden of The New York Times has written that Young "has a disciplined one-in-a-million high tenor shading into falsetto that he can direct through the stratosphere." John Lloyd Young originated the role of Frankie Valli in Broadway's Tony Award-winning Best Musical and international hit, Jersey Boys. By also starring in Clint Eastwood's film adaptation of the show, Mr. Young joined a select few actors in the entertainment industry that took their Tony-winning stage role to the big screen. He sings lead vocals on the Grammy-winning platinum Original Broadway cast album as well as the Jersey Boys movie album. As Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys, Young became the only American actor in history to win all four major leading actor honors in a Broadway debut: the Tony, Drama Desk, Out Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards.
One of contemporary music's most seminal singer/songwriters, Suzanne Vega, returns to Café Carlyle with Suzanne Vega Sings Her New York Songs at the Carlyle, March 5 - 16. Widely regarded as one of the most brilliant songwriters of her generation, Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk-music revival of the early 1980s when, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, she sang what has been labeled contemporary folk or neo-folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs.
Throughout the season, Woody Allen will continue to perform Monday nights with the Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz Band.
Additional winter performers will be announced shortly.
