International song stylist, Iris Williams returns to the New York Cabaret scene for two performances only, Sundays, tonight, October 6th & 20th at 9:30pm, at Metropolitan Room. She will be accompanied by Musical Director Art Weiss on piano.
Ms. Williams, born in Wales, will transport you on A Romantic Musical Journey, with standards by Rodgers & Hart, Duke Ellington & Jerome Kern. Her first big success came with her recording of "He was Beautiful," the theme from the acclaimed film, The Deer Hunter. The record went gold & Williams' career took off, with performances around the world, including 14 Royal Performances, the London Palladium, Royal Albert Hall, the Smithsonian in DC, the LA Music Center, the Cinegrill & the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles & the Oak Room at The Algonquin Hotel in NYC.
Ms. Williams performed for ten years with Bob Hope at President & Mrs. Gerald R. Ford's Charity Golf tournaments & Ski Classics, as well as the Bing Crosby Golf Classic, now run by his wife Katherine. She also performed with Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Sir Tom Jones, Sir Harry Secombe & Sir Jimmy Saville. In addition to her many TV appearances in the UK, she also had her own weekly series, "Iris Williams Songbook," a musical program featuring Iris & guests performing the classic standards that are featured in her Metropolitan Room debut.
Now based in New York, Ms. Williams was awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire) in 2004, by Queen Elizabeth II, for her contributions to music & her services to charitable causes. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.
