Elena Bennett and Fred Barton will recreate their legendary song salon at the Iridium on January 26, 2010 at 6:30pm.
Elena Bennett and Fred Barton, singer/pianist duo extraordinaire, joined forces at the former Eighty-Eights, and out of their weekly performances evolved the Bennett & Barton Song Salon - the first evening of its kind, with Bennett & Barton singing spontaneous sets drawn from the Great American Songbook and classic Broadway repertoire, aided and abetted by talented guests who turn up in the audience any given night. Past guests of the Bennett & Barton Song Salon have included Phyllis Diller, Liza Minnelli, Teri White, and late great songwriter Robert Wright among many others from the Broadway and cabaret world.
Also appearing tonight at the Iridium is Terese Genecco and Her Little Big Band at 8pm and 10pm. The 'little big band' features Barry Levitt on piano, Sean Harkness on guitar, Ray Marchica on drums, Tom Hubbard on bass, Emedin Rivera on Latin percussion, Cliff Lyons on tenor saxophone, Mark Miller on trombone, and Kenny Lavender on trumpet.
A New York City MAC and Bistro Award-Winner, this audience and critic's favorite has recently been hailed as the "love child" of Dean Martin and Judy Garland by the San Francisco Examiner.
Vocalist, bandleader, and comedian Genecco and her 8-piece band of top-flight New York City jazz musicians put on a high-energy show reminiscent of The Rat Pack and Louis Prima/Keely Smith era in Las Vegas. Time Out New York Magazine has named her to their Top Ten Best lists and hailed her as a 'critics pick' two years running.
