The Ira Brind School of Theater Arts at the University of the Arts is to collaborate with its' own student run theater organization, Blurring Edges: A Cabaret Series to produce How Glory Goes, an evening of music pulling from the cannon of musical theater composer Adam Guettel. Faculty member Bill Buddendorf is set to direct alongside guest music director Darius Smith, who hails from Washington D.C. Smith is Assistant Professor and Musical Theatre Performance coordinator at Howard University.

Bill Buddendorf first worked with Adam Guettel as an undergrad student at the University of the Arts, when ten students and five professional actors were assembled to workshop his musical Floyd Collins. "This was my second workshop under Tina Landau's direction," says Buddendorf. "The experience consisted of many artistic revelations. Most importantly Adam and Tina set a high standard of what artistic collaboration can and should be. With painstaking attention to detail and truth, a true story became larger than life and expressed ideas and asked questions in a way I had never experienced as theater artist." Buddendorf's experiences with Guettel's music did not stop after his University training. "I was fortunate to be in the wings during Teresa McCarthy's performance of Through the Mountain in the black box of the long gone 313 building. Every night of the run I watched, mesmerized and moved. Some years later I was lucky to assistant direct the Prince Music Theater's production of Myths and Hymns. Director, Eric Rosen, brought an unexpected clarity to the production that I will never forget."

Buddendorf and Smith will lead musical theater seniors Brendan Dalton, Chanel Karimkhani, Jarrod Ian Markman, and Shannon Remley in an evening that will explore Adam Guettel's music. For Buddendorf, this process will bring his experiences full circle. "Adam's music is strongly linked to milestone moments in my career and growth as an artist. I am grateful to have experienced his work while building the foundation for my own creative process as an actor, director and educator. I am excited beyond words to bring a few of his pieces to life with 'Blurring Edges' at the institution that introduced me to this incomparable composer."

How Glory Goes will play at the Laurie Beechman Cabaret (Broad and South Street) at the University of the Arts on April 6th, 7th and 9th at 8:00 PM.
