Honeck-Moss Productions Announces IN THE WORKS at The Duplex Cabaret

Honeck-Moss Productions is proud to present "In The Works." This exciting series is in it's second season was conceived as an opportunity for composers to try out new work in front of an audience and see how it plays in a supportive environment. It is also an opportunity to create community among the composers and their performers.

In The Works is presented monthly and feature three composers or composer teams, each presenting about 20 minutes of new material. This month, Sunday March 25th at 9:30pm features the works of composers: The Crescent Moons, Jessica Fleitman & Rick Bassett, and Bill Nelson & Joseph Trefler. Hosted by: Andrew David Sotomayor.

The CRESCENT MOONS (SHANNON SCHUREMAN & FILIPPO SIRONI) are a deeply melodic vocal and guitar jazz duo established in Red Hook, Brooklyn in the summer of '16. And yes, they're also in love. The two grew up on farms, Shannon in the San Fernando Valley in California and Filippo at the foot of the Italian Alps. The two met in the middle, in New York City-Filippo having moved stateside for his pure adoration for American rock & roll and Shannon drawn to the big city for her fascination of Broadway musicals. Years later, after a long day of work at the bakery & the grocery store, the couple were enjoying a drink at their local tavern when a jazz jam transpired. During the jam Filippo was handed a guitar and asked to play along with the standard 'Misty' and, well, the rest is history! The very next day The Crescent Moons band was born and ever since the two have been fixated on the music fashioned by the jazz & blues greats of the 1950s.

The Crescent Moons joyously compose music that celebrates these legends while undoubtedly giving subtle nods to their own roots in rock & roll & musical theater, with a sprinkle of folk & European gyspy. JESSICA FLEITMAN (lyricist and bookwriter) & Rick Bassett (composer) & met in the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop in 2012. Their songs have been featured in cabarets and concerts throughout New York City and elsewhere, including such venues as The Lori Beechman, Cornelia Street Café, and the BMI Smoker. Their children's musical - "Little Miss Shushan: A Musical Megillah" - was commissioned by JCP Downtown and received its world-premiere production in Tribeca in 2015. They are the writers of the song "One One Direction," which was commissioned by the Wellsongs Project (dedicated to raising public awareness of children with special needs), and performed in concert at the York Theatre in 2016. Now in the BMI Advanced Workshop, Fleitman and Bassett are adapting Fleitman's play - "The Average-Sized Mermaid" - into a new musical comedy.

Rick's music has been performed at the Virginia Arts Festival, the Sound Bites Festival, and 54 Below, and been nominated for a MAC Award. Rick's orchestrations have been performed by Sutton Foster with orchestras including the New York, Boston, and Cincinnati Pops, and the National Symphony. On Broadway, Rick has been an orchestrator for Violet, Caroline, or Change, and Twelfth Night.

Jessica's plays include The Average-Sized Mermaid (Corwin Award), Word of the Day (commission: Sloan Foundation and Magic Theatre), G Train Exodus (winner: LIC One Act Play Festival), Show of Hands (finalist: International Jewish Plays Project), and The Flood (finalist: Seven Devils Playwrights Conference). She was formerly on the writing staff of the digital comedy channel Seriously.TV, and received her MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU Tisch (Goldberg Fellow, winner of the Chair's Award).

Bill Nelson is a New York-based lyricist, bookwriter and playwright. With composer Anna K. Jacobs he wrote Harmony, Kansas which had its premiere production in San Diego in 2012 (four Scenie Awards, three San Diego Theatre Critics Circle nominations). With composer Joseph Trefler, he's developing his newest musical, Men with Money. He also wrote Bill Nelson's All-Male Revue-a revue of his songs conceived and directed by William Finn for Barrington Stage Co. His plays have been seen across the country and his songs have been presented at cabarets around the world, including Finn's Songs by Ridiculously Talented Composers at Joe's Pub and Barrington Stage Company, and New York Theatre Barn's The Oh, So Sexy Songs of Bill Nelson. Bill Nelson's Nutcrackin' Christmas: An All-Original, Ridiculously Merry Cabaret/Variety Brouhaha! premiered last year in New York.

Originally from the Midwest, Bill co-founded and ran Burning Moon Productions, a Kansas City theatre group dedicated to staging works about gay men and women. Among the shows he's written under this umbrella are Tales from Gaydom and Mishappenance. For Imagination Studio he wrote the serial, Welcome to Paradise. He's also penned scripts for productions by the Heartland Men's Chorus.

Bill was a winner of 2015's New Voices Project sponsored by Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment. He's a published lyricist, 2010/11 Dramatists Guild Fellow, and member of the Advanced BMI Workshop. He received an M.F.A. in Musical Theatre Writing at NYU-Tisch where he wrote, with composer Daniel Lincoln, the musical Savannah: a Jazz Fable. Billnelsonbillnelson.com

JOSEPH TREFLER is a New York-based composer-lyricist. He has written a number of musicals, including LADY LATE NITE (short film musical distributed by Ouat Media), A LADYLIKE MURDER (premiered at the Isabel Bader theatre in Toronto in 2012), THE UNUSUAL ENGAGEMENT OF CHESTER PRINGLE ("Best Short Musical" in the 2014 Fresh Fruit Festival) and, most recently, MEN WITH MONEY with bookwriter-lyricist Bill Nelson. He composed the score for THE MUSIC BOX, a short dance film that was shown on Air Canada flights.

He is a winner of the 2015 NMI New Voices Project (sponsored by Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment). In 2016, a concert of Joseph's songs was performed at Lincoln Center's BROADWAY'S FUTURE SONGBOOK series. Joseph received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto and his MFA from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. He is a professor of musical theatre writing at Sheridan College's M.A.S.S.I.V.E. (Music Applied to Stage, Screen, and Interactive Visual Elements) program. www.josephtrefler-composer.com

Andrew David Sotomayor as a Composer/Lyricist, his works include providing music and lyrics for the original musicals 50 Shades of F****d Up, Committed, Third Party Ruling, Sarah Crewe, The Guardians, and Requiem for Adrian Bayle, and music for The Circus Animals. He has also provided scores for Bent, and the films Cuba 1961: A Love Story, Timeless, and BX3M. His music has been featured in the concerts #YesAllWomen Raise Your Voice, Broadway's Future Songbook Series, MAC presents They Write the Songs and most recently Musematch 8: Achromatic. Also a composer of sacred music, his Mass Of Fellowship is performed every week at St. Joseph's in Greenwich Village during the Contemporary Masses where he also sings and accompanies. He is the proud recipient of a 2014 MAC Award for his original song The Right Time.
